1 Korintians 12:1-10

 'My friends, una bin ask mi about spiritual gifts. I won make una remember sey, before una bigin follow Christ; na juju una dey serve. Naw, I wont make una know sey, anybody wey God Spirit dey lead, go sey, Jesus naim bi Oga God and e nor go ever curse am. Na many spiritual gifts God dey give pipol, but all of dem na from di same Spirit. And wi get difren ways to serve God and each of us dey do difren tins. But na di same God dey work for awa life and E dey help us do evritin. Each of us get difren gift wey di Spirit give us and wi dey use am do good. Some among us dey fit speak with wisdom and odas with knowledge, but na di same Spirit dey give us all dis gifts. To oda pipol, di Spirit dey give dem faith or di pawa to heal sick pipol. Di Spirit dey give odas di pawa to do mirakle and e make some pipol profets and some dey fit know wen God Spirit dey among us. Odas dey tok with difren-difren language and some among us go tell una wetin di tins wey dem dey tok, mean. '

 

You don ever read say anybody be copy of the Apostles or copy of Jesus? No at all. But today, as we look around, we dey see plenty copy-copy version of mega pastors and leaders wey don turn people to “mini-me” army. God no dey call two people the same way, He no dey give the same grace, the same talent, gift, anointing and assignment to any two people. If you see person wey get calling similar to your own (but e no fit ever be exactly the same), na just sign say God wan use una reach more people and touch more destinies with wetin He put inside una. God no be factory of mass production; na originality be Him style. 

When God call us, He expect make we use the gift, talent and anointing in the unique way wey He assign to us. For that your own calling, God don already provide resources and grace wey match am. 

1 Corinthians 14:7 talk about musical instrument—like flute and harp—say each one get im own clear, different sound. If flute wan play tune, every note must dey clear before anybody fit recognize the song. This one mean say if ordinary instrument fit give distinct and original sound, how much more spirit-filled and Spirit-led human beings? Believers suppose original in the way dem take express their God-given calling. 

Today, we dey see copy everywhere, especially for church. Almost every singer or worshipper dey try sound like their “idol,” forgetting say the gift, grace, anointing and audience no be the same. Many church members even dey try look and behave exactly like their leaders, instead of to look into “the perfect law of liberty” as James 1:25 talk, to allow their own originality and uniqueness shine. Na so Proverbs 4:18 talk say your own path suppose shine brighter and brighter. 

If we begin copy people or pattern ourselves exactly after those we admire, we no go remain the vessel wey carry wetin God originally put inside us. We go later end up with the person own expression and copied manifestation, but without the real grace and anointing. Another person anointing and grace no get value on top your head, because as Jeremiah 1:5 show, God separate you from belly with your own original assignment and full package of attributes. Clone no get real worth and value. 

Anything wey God give you na original, and the ministering angels wey He assign to support your gift and calling dey permitted to help you as “you,” not as copy of another person. If you shift from original to copy, dem no go recognize you again, because your spiritual signature don change. Instead of the first pattern wey God design, you don turn to something wey no resemble the original again. 

Ephesians 2:10 make am clear say God create us for good works. But those good works no fit show until we allow God “re-create” us inside Christ unto those same works. Good works no fit come out if we dey busy to copy another person, dey borrow their talent, gift, anointing and calling, and dey try become like them pass how we dey look like Christ our Lord and Saviour. 

Galatians 6:4 encourage each person to check him own work well, do him very best, so that the person go get personal satisfaction of work well done and no go need compare himself with another. We suppose depend on God’s grace to lead us into every good work, no be to dey rely on or copy, pattern and clone ourselves after who we think say “don make am,” as if say if we look, sound and behave like them, na so we go make am too. 

Be yourself—the original wey God make you to be as Psalm 139:13-16 show. Paul still press this matter with Timothy for 1 Timothy 1:18 and other places: make Timothy imitate Christ through the pattern wey he see for Paul life, no be to turn Timothy to “mini Paul.” 

To be clone of another person no guarantee say you go see the same result, the same audience or the same reward. Each calling, talent, anointing and grace dey attract particular reward as Matthew 16:27 talk. So make you choose to be original, no be copy. 

REFLECTION QUESTIONS 

- In which area of life or ministry you don try imitate other people, and how that thing don affect the way you see your purpose? 

- You sure and confident for the grace and anointing wey God give you, or you dey always feel pressure to copy another person expression? 

- How you fit make sure say your expression dey reflect “the perfect law of liberty” (James 1:25) and no be photocopy of another person? 

- You really dey seek to imitate Christ as Paul advise Timothy (1 Tim 1:18), or na human model you dey chase? 

PRAYER: Father, help me always to look into the perfect law of liberty to see wetin, who and how I suppose be, instead of to pattern myself after another person, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
