WAITING ON GOD PATIENTLY
Psalm 37:7 AMPC
Be still and rest in the
Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him; fret not yourself
because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked
devices to pass.
Life often feels like a
series of waiting rooms—waiting for answers, breakthroughs, or direction. In
these moments, impatience can creep in, but Scripture reminds us that waiting
is not wasted time. It is a sacred space where God works deeply within us, shaping
our character and strengthening our faith.
Waiting is hard! Nobody likes
or enjoys waiting but waiting is a certainty in life. Waiting! I am waiting!
You’re waiting! Everyone is waiting! Waiting for something or someone, waiting
patiently or impatiently for whatever it is one is waiting for!
Waiting is never easy, yet
it is an inevitable part of life. We all wait—whether for marriage, exams,
children, jobs, or healing. Whatever the need, its significance often makes the
wait worthwhile.
At the heart of waiting is
hope. As Romans 4:18 reminds us, Abraham believed against hope and became the
father of many nations. Psalm 43:5 urges us to “hope in God.” Hope is more than
wishful thinking; it is confident expectation rooted in trust. It sustains us
when circumstances seem uncertain.
Patience is equally
essential. Hebrews 10:36 declares that we need patience, and Galatians 5:23
lists it as a fruit of the Spirit. Without patience, waiting becomes
impossible. While hope motivates, patience steadies us.
What are you waiting for?
Have you got the patience to wait for it? You can’t hurry anything to happen;
you need patience to wait it out!
We must learn to rest in the
Lord and wait for Him, He alone knows the way that we take and when He has
tried us we shall come out like gold according to Job 23:10, this seems to
imply that, we would miss the opportunity to shine like gold if we don’t wait
on the Lord to do what He needs to do in, for and through us while we wait.
Waiting on God reveals how
impatient we truly are. Yet, resting in Him cultivates patience. God’s timing
is perfect—never early, never late as declared in 2 Peter 3:9. There is the law
of divine timing as nothing happens earlier or late with God. While we wait, He
prepares us, He shapes our character, prunes, and prepares us for what lies
ahead as we see in Job 23:10.
Use this season to shed
unnecessary burdens, deepen your understanding of Scripture, and align with His
will.
The Holy Spirit often
imparts insight during waiting—revelations that strengthen and equip us. When
you look back, you’ll marvel at what God accomplished in you during this time.
So, rest in the Lord. Cease
striving. Be still! Avoid murmuring, anger, or rash decisions. Submit to His
will with expectancy and trust. Waiting teaches dependence on God and reminds
us that His goodness and mercy sustain every spiritual endeavours. So, wait
patiently for Him, and be expectant, be determined to expect, as you wait for Him.
All our spiritual activities
can go no further without God’s goodness and mercy, patiently waiting teaches
us to be dependent on God.
Waiting is not a passive
act—it is an active posture of faith. When we choose to trust God’s timing, we
position ourselves for His best. Remember, the delay is not denial; it is
preparation. Stay hopeful, stay patient, and watch God turn your waiting into a
testimony.
The scriptures are full of promises
for those who wait, here are a few:
Lamentations 3:25 TLB “The
Lord is wonderfully good to those who wait for him, to those who seek for him”.
Psalm 27:14 TLB “Don't be
impatient. Wait for the Lord, and he will come and save you! Be brave, stout-hearted,
and courageous. Yes, wait and he will help you”.
Psalm 25:3 AMPC “Yes, let
none who trust and wait hopefully and look for You be put to shame or be
disappointed; let them be ashamed who forsake the right or deal treacherously
without cause”.
Rest in the Lord and wait
patiently for Him.
