CHILD-FRIENDLY DUST TO DUST!
Genesis 3:19 GNT
You will have to work hard
and sweat to make the soil produce anything, until you go back to the soil from
which you were formed. You were made from soil, and you will become soil
again."
Ash Wednesday reminds us of
something simple:
We come from dust, and one
day we return to dust — but God’s love is stronger than our weakness.
The Bible doesn’t talk about
Ash Wednesday by name, but it talks a lot about dust, ashes, repentance, and
turning back to God.
God made us from the ground,
yet He breathed life into us. That means we are small, but very loved.
Joel 2:12–13 says, “Return
to Me with all your heart.” God wants our hearts, not just actions.
Job also showed humility
when he said he repented “in dust and ashes.”
When people put ashes on
their forehead, it’s not to show off. It is a reminder to turn back to God, to
be humble, and to trust His mercy.
Jesus also fasted in the
wilderness for 40 days (Matthew 4:1–11). Lent helps us remember His example —
not by trying to be perfect, but by depending on Him.
Psalm 103:14 says God
remembers we are dust. He knows we are weak, and He loves us anyway.
Ash Wednesday is a time to
be honest with God — about mistakes, fears, or when we drift away. And God
always says, “Come back to Me.”
The ashes are in the shape
of a cross to remind us that Jesus already took the punishment. Yes, we return
to dust someday, but because of Jesus, we will also rise again.
1 Corinthians 15 reminds us
that even though we have earthly bodies, God promises resurrection and eternal
life.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
· Have
I been trying to do things on my own instead of asking God for help?
· What
weaknesses or mistakes do I need to bring to God today?
· How
can I use Lent to grow closer to Jesus instead of trying to impress anyone?
PRAYER: Lord, You know I am
weak, but You are strong. I return to You today. Please make my heart clean and
fill every dry place with Your love. Help me follow Jesus during this season.
Amen.
Shalom
