CHILD-FRIENDLY SPIRITUAL AMNESTY!
1 Samuel 11:12-13 GNT
Then the people of Israel
said to Samuel, "Where are the people who said that Saul should not be our
king? Hand them over to us, and we will kill them!" [13] But Saul said,
"No one will be put to death today, for this is the day the LORD rescued
Israel."
Amnesty means being forgiven
for something wrong you have done. Spiritual amnesty is when God forgives our
sins and gives us another chance. The Bible says the devil tries to trick and
harm people (1 Peter 5:8), but God is full of mercy. Because He loves us, He
gives us a way to be forgiven and protected.
Everyone makes mistakes.
Sometimes we disobey, speak unkindly, or make choices that do not please God.
But God already knew we would need help, so He made a plan to rescue us.
Lamentations 3:22 says God’s mercy never ends. Every morning, He gives us a fresh
start.
In the Bible, King David
showed amnesty to Shimei (2 Samuel 19:16–23). Shimei had insulted David, and
David could have punished him. But instead, David forgave him. This is just
like God—He is the King, and He forgives us even when we deserve punishment.
Another example is Barabbas
(Matthew 27:16–26). Barabbas was a criminal, but he was set free while Jesus
took his place. This reminds us that Jesus took our punishment so we could be
forgiven.
In the Old Testament, God
created cities of refuge (Numbers 35:6–34). These were safe places where people
could run when they needed protection. Today, Jesus is our safe place. When we
run to Him, He forgives us and keeps us safe from the enemy.
1 John 2:1 says Jesus is our
Advocate—our helper who speaks for us. When we sin, Jesus stands before God and
says, “I paid for that.” That is spiritual amnesty. God forgives us, protects
us, and gives us another chance.
Spiritual amnesty is God’s
gift to everyone who believes in Him.
