PIDGIN AN ILLEGITIMATE DESIRE FOR MORE!

Hebrews 13:5

E get desire wey be correct one — this na the kind wey dey follow God law and rule. But any desire wey no follow that law or wey no match God standard, na illegitimate desire. Our Bible verse no just dey talk about money — e dey talk about security. God dey tell us say, “Your life no dey stand because of wetin you get, where you reach or who you know. Na My presence dey hold you.” 

The Greek word philargyria mean spirit wey dey hold tight to things — always dey want more and no dey ever satisfy. E point to the heart wey no fit rest. So e go good to ask yourself weather  you dey content with wetin God don give you, or you dey do everything to reach your goals—even if e go make you bend the rules? 

This command no just say make we avoid greed or make we dey content; e dey reveal say God no dey far from us. Contentment no be something wey we dey produce by effort; na something wey we dey enjoy because God dey with us. 

Make you see am like this: Greed dey whisper say, “You no get enough.” Fear dey whisper say, “You fit lose wetin you get.” Comparison dey whisper say, “Others don pass you.” But God dey declare say, “You get Me — and I dey enough.” 

James 4:1–3 explain the root of wrong desire: “You desire but you no get, so you kill... You covet but you no fit collect... You ask with wrong motive...” That na desire wey don turn into fight, covetousness wey dey consume, and prayer wey God no fit answer because the motive don spoil. 

For Luke 12:15, Jesus warn us make we dey careful of all kinds of greed, say life no dey consist of plenty possessions. He show say greed get many forms — no be only money matter; e fit be power, attention, fame, relationship, influence, or experience. 

For 1 Timothy 6:9, e talk say anybody wey dey eager to get rich dey fall into temptation and trap — full of “foolish and harmful desires.” Na true talk! Because this one na wetin we dey see for people and nations today. The phrase harmful desires mean those cravings wey dey carry person heart away from God. 

Proverbs 27:20 talk say “Death and Destruction no ever satisfy, and human eyes sef no dey content.” This na strong reminder say man desire no dey ever talk “enough.” 

Illegitimate desire dey show three clear signs: Discontent with wetin God don provide. Coveting wetin God never give. Motive wey dey serve self instead of honouring God.

Desire no bad by itself; the issue be when the desire: 

Ignore God boundary, rush ahead of God timing, go after wetin God never assign, or begin control person instead of person to control am. 

Illegitimate desire dey start quietly. E fit look harmless — small wish or harmless longing for “more.” But when e cross God boundary, e go turn restless, full of comparison, conflict and dissatisfaction. James explain say the real issue no be the thing wey you want but why you want am. 

Illegitimate desire dey drain the soul; but mercy dey restore am. 

Illegitimate desire dey grab; mercy dey open hand. 

Illegitimate desire dey say, “I must get this to dey complete.” 

Mercy dey say, “You don already complete inside God.” 

When God say, “I no go ever leave you,” e dey talk to the deepest human fear — the fear of to be left alone or abandoned. When He add, “nor forsake you,” e dey heal the fear of disappointment or betrayal. 

Join the two together and you go see the full promise: you no go ever enter any season wey God never first enter before you. That na why contentment fit hold — no because life dey predictable, but because God dey stable. 

REFLECTION QUESTIONS 

·       Which area of my life desire don move from small longing to serious craving? 

·       Wetin dey push my desire — fear, comparison, insecurity or trust? 

·       How God dey invite me today to practise contentment for my daily life? 

PRAYER: Lord, make Your light shine for inside every desire wey don cross Your will. Where my motive don dirty, purify am. Where I don reach for wetin You never give, teach me contentment. Let Your mercy calm every restless craving and plant my heart again inside trust. Help me make my desires begin honour You and bring life. Amen.
