IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO START AGAIN!
Job 17:10-11 GW
"But now, all of you,
come and try again! I won’t find one wise man among you. My days are passing by. My plans are broken.
My dreams are shattered."[10]
Life may require us to start
again—and it’s never too late to start over. One of life’s certainties is that
everyone will experience failure at something at some point. Life is never an
unbroken series of victories. Setbacks, losses, and sometimes defeat will
happen and may overwhelm us.
Defeat may be thrust upon us
by circumstance or by others, or we may defeat ourselves by our own thoughts
and actions. When this happens, some give up, some persist until they succeed,
and others are willing to start over again.
Luke 7:11-15 gives the
account of the widow of Nain, on her way to bury her only son, crying,
distraught after losing another close family member. On the way, Jesus saw her,
had compassion, and acted.
The woman must have thought,
"Is He kidding? Does He know what I've been through?" But then, Jesus
touched the open coffin and raised her son. Imagine what she felt when her son
was restored—probably the same feeling Mary and Martha had when their brother
Lazarus came out of his tomb in John 11:38-44.
Clearly, with God, it is
never too late!
It wasn't too late for the
thief on the cross in Luke 23:43 either.
It's never too late to start
with God!
Never doubt that God sees
your pain. His love for us compels Him to act. It may not happen in our
timetable, but because God sees our pain, He will intervene at the right time
and make all things beautiful in His time.
Sometimes, we need painful
experiences to make us change our ways, according to Proverbs 20:30. So, let go
of regrets—and start again.
Regret doesn’t change
anything! It only keeps us focused on the past. Regret is like staring in the
rear-view mirror while driving down a winding road. It's a sure way to crash—if
we’re always looking backward, we miss the opportunities ahead to help us start
over again.
Everything starts with a
dream, a concept, and then execution. Don’t give up on your dreams or ideas
just yet!
Whatever your dream or idea
is, you can start over again.
Is it about your spiritual
walk? Start again!
Wishing to be debt-free?
Start again!
Redemption of time and
relationships? Start again!
You may feel too old, too
late, or too much of a failure to succeed, so you choose to give up instead of
starting over. But Proverbs 4:7 says you’ll get the wisdom you need to start
again because God hasn’t given up on you.
Abraham started over several
times in different places until he settled in Canaan in Genesis 11–12.
Moses started again in
Midian in Exodus 2:11–15.
When God puts a dream in our
hearts, He’ll show us the steps to make that dream a reality.
How about Job? He lost
everything, but grace allowed him to start again.
If we ask God to give us new
dreams, visions, direction, strength, wisdom, and grace to start over, He will.
It’s never too late—don’t stop yourself from beginning again.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
- Have you ever had to start
something again after it failed? How did this decision shape your life?
- Is regret holding you
back, or is faith propelling you forward?
- When in your life did
starting over lead to breakthrough, and what helped you succeed?
- What will you do
differently as you start again today, seeking God’s help?
PRAYER: Lord God, thank You
for the assurance that nothing is ever too late with You. Help me not to give
up, but to start again with Your help, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
