SEE GOD IN THE DARKNESS

Daniel 2:17-23 NLT

Then Daniel went home and told his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah what had happened.

[18] He urged them to ask the God of heaven to show them his mercy by telling them the secret, so they would not be executed along with the other wise men of Babylon.

[19] That night the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven.

[20] He said, "Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power.

[21] He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.

[22] He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light.

[23] I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors, for you have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of you and revealed to us what the king demanded."

Darkness is a void—devoid of light, hope, and illumination. It shrouds secrets and hides the way forward. In its depths, no one can see clearly.

Light, on the other hand, represents life, love, hope, and a future. It permeates everything, overpowering darkness. Even a flickering candle can restore sight to a blind person in the dark.

The Bible declares that God is light (1 John 1:5). His light embodies both knowledge and purity. When we find ourselves in darkness—whether literal or metaphorical—God’s light is our guide.

The Word of God acts as a beacon, illuminating our path. It imparts knowledge, wisdom, and revelation. Psalm 119:130 reminds us that the entrance of God’s words brings light and understanding to even the simplest among us.

We possess two sets of eyes: physical eyes to perceive the world around us and spiritual eyes to discern deeper truths. Often, it’s in the darkness that our spiritual senses become most acute.

Have you noticed that challenges seem smaller during the day, but worries and fears flood in when darkness falls? Yet, God can use the dark to teach us profound lessons, just as He did with Daniel.

Sometimes, hidden things are revealed only in the dark. Nebuchadnezzar’s dream remained a mystery until Daniel sought the Lord in the night (Matthew 10:27). In that darkness, God unveiled secrets.

Our undivided attention often comes in moments of darkness—when distractions fade away. Ephesians 5:13 tells us that everything becomes visible under God’s light. Nothing can remain hidden.

As children of light, we belong to God. He reveals things to us that others cannot understand. His light dispels ignorance and prejudice. When our spiritual eyes become luminous, we no longer stumble blindly.

Verse 22 emphasizes that God reveals deep and hidden things. His light penetrates darkness, allowing us to see spiritual truths. Sinners, however, shy away from the light, preferring ignorance.

So, let us choose to see God in the dark. May His light shine within us, dispelling fear and revealing wisdom. Let there be light!

PRAYER: Father of light, illuminate every dark situation in my life and help me see You clearly, even in the shadows. In Jesus’ name, amen. WOULD YOU CONSIDER PARTNERING WITH US TO REACH MORE PEOPLE?
