INSPIRATION
1 Corinthians 2:12-13 AMPC
Now we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy] Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God.
[13] And we are setting these truths forth in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the [Holy] Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual truths with spiritual language [to those who possess the Holy Spirit].
Inspiration is someone or something that gives us ideas for doing something. It is the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially something creative—a sudden brilliant or timely idea. Divine inspiration means divine influence, especially that which is believed to have led to the writing of the Bible.
We get inspired by many things and people in every sector of life, but the most important inspiration should come from the word of God, which is written in the Bible by divine inspiration of God on men, according to 2 Timothy 3:16.
We meet people daily who inspire us to do, act, and speak in ways we wouldn’t normally do. We receive inspiration to want to do better or achieve higher because of the influence we’re under. Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron,” meaning we become a better version of ourselves when we’re inspired by those we admire.
Who and what inspires you?
What part of the scriptures or who in the Bible inspires you to want to be who you are, to be a better Christian, sibling, spouse, friend, etc.?
Who and how are you inspired to grow in your faith?
What and how inspires you to keep going when all you want to do is give in and give up?
Inspiration can come from anyone and any place, but the ultimate inspiration lies within the scriptures, according to 2 Peter 1:21. There is no shortage of worldly inspirations to follow if we are so inclined, but are these inspirations and inspirators good for us? Are they godly? Not always. Some inspirations and inspirators will lead us off the eternal pathway, unlike the Spirit of God and truth that leads us into all truth, according to John 16:13.
Even the enemy inspires humanity deceptively into half-truths and seemingly good things without any eternal value. Philippians 4:13 says we can do all things but only through Christ who “inspires” us. This means we must find inspiration in the word, presence, and power of God, not in ourselves, our skills, and abilities.
We read books on specific fields and expertise to gain inspiration for that area. We listen to motivational speakers and speeches to be inspired to get there, but so often, we neglect the infallible word of God that can motivate and inspire us more than any natural thing or person can do. Psalm 34:8 confidently invites us to taste the Lord and see His goodness, with the assurance that once we do, we would be motivated to want more of Him and not settle for anything else or less.
Godly and divine inspiration is freely given by God for our unspeakable comfort, but we must dig and acknowledge the inspirational messages littered in the scriptures. Godly inspiration inspires us to pursue God with all of us, as stated in Jeremiah 29:13. Let the word of God inspire you to pray, worship, study, live righteously, express the fruit of the Spirit, and be an ambassador of Christ.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, continually inspire me to live for you and seek you with all that I am. In Jesus’ name, amen.
