THE KING HAS THE LAST MOVE!

1 Corinthians 15:4 AMPC

That He was buried, that He arose on the third day as the Scriptures foretold,


Checkmate! People all over the world play the chess game and others where moves are strategic and needful. The winner will proclaim “checkmate.” This is a Persian word that means king, while mate means helpless. This is the position in which a player's king is directly attacked by an opponent's piece or pawn and has no possible move to escape the check. The attacking player thus wins the game. Checkmate!

In chess, the king is never actually captured—the player loses as soon as the player's king is checkmated. 

Sounds a lot like our spiritual lives, doesn’t it? Our enemy is constantly looking for ways to defeat us while God knows and sees all his moves and checkmates him on our behalf always. Sometimes, it may look like there are no more moves in our favour, but God the Father, as the King, always has one more move, even when it doesn’t look like it.

Lucifer always looks for ways to defeat the Lord, using human frailty, curiosity to seek, ignorance of the power we have, and the grace available to us through Christ. The game of life is played in the spiritual realm, where the enemy is constantly moving man as chess pieces whichever way they like to the detriment of humanity.

Chess is a game of 100% skill, one person against another. The idea is going head-to-head with someone and trying to outmanoeuvre them, out-strategize them, or out-think them, exactly as the enemy does with us, manoeuvring us either in a one-on-one game or a group game to try and overcome us. But the King always has one move and it’s always the last move!

Daniel 6 is a chess game of epic proportion; Daniel’s faithfulness was publicly called into question, but the King always has one more move. The enemy moved, but the King checkmated.

Sometimes, like Daniel, we may do everything right and the enemy would still have all manners of adversity against us, but God will always have one more move by His miraculous hands to deliver us. Satan is constantly in competition with God; however, we can say that Satan is opposed to God and desires to ruin His plans. 

Like the story of Jesus, how He was nailed, beaten, and hung on the cross, we can almost hear Satan and Hell laughing and the demons circling Him in assumed victory. Satan thought he surely had the King. Checkmate? No! The King seems to be out of moves and it’s over! No! The King is never out of moves! However, on the third day, hell screams in defeat. The King had one more move! Checkmate!

When the enemy wants to scream “Checkmate!” at us, saying we can’t move this way or that way, and it seems like we’ve run out of chances and out of help with the enemy screaming checkmate, but God says, “Oh no, not today devil, I don’t think so! I’ve still got one more move!”

When all of hell is screaming and laughing and ready to call Checkmate on you, your King has one more move! We serve a living, trustworthy, and powerful God who continuously has one more move. Whether in sickness, money problems, sound mind, relationship issues, or job difficulty, remember with Jesus on your side, you always have one more move.  

Goliath had the army of Israel cornered in 1 Samuel 17 and was certain of their defeat. While David looked like an insect to Goliath, David's King still had one more move. Because we are joined to Christ, we can trust the King to surround us always with the resurrection power to checkmate the enemy.

Your King has one more move! Checkmate!

PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for giving me victory always by the power of the blood of the Lamb and my triumphant testimonies. Thanks for checkmating the enemy in Jesus’ name, amen.
