CRISIS OPPORTUNITY
John 14:1 AMPC
Do not let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me.
A crisis is a point in time when a difficult or major decision must be made. It is a time when something needs to be decided—whether a course of action must continue, be modified, or be terminated. A crisis is a natural part of life. The Bible teaches that crises can be opportunities for growth and self-improvement, emphasizing resilience, faith, and the presence of God during challenging times.
We normally hate crises! Usually, a crisis is crushing, physically and emotionally exhausting. Crises in our lives, homes, and ministries often cannot be avoided. We face crises regularly in finances, occupation, family, marriages, church life, and health. Job notes in 5:7 that man is born to trouble and given to adversity, pointing out that the reality of trouble is as common and dependable as the sun rising daily.
Romans 8:38-39 tells us about the kinds of crises we could face in life, but says these crises should not separate us, who love God, from the love of God.
Ephesians 1:11 explains that God has planned out the details of our lives and that He uses those details consistent with His providential plan in making us more like His Son. Included in His plans are crises! The implication here is that, as hard as you and I might try to avoid it, these times of personal chaos and threat are simply unavoidable. So, if we cannot avoid it, it’s important to consider how God would have us face it.
One way to look at a crisis is as the Chinese do, as a dangerous opportunity. Every crisis brings an opportunity! The opportunity means that we go into a crisis but come out of it in diverse ways and places.
Some people will react to a crisis with the standard “woe is me, why me, how can the Lord allow this?” But think of all the people in the scriptures who went through a crisis, but they took solace in the word of God and the power of His might.
Change is inevitable in life, which includes crises. It could be divorce, death, bankruptcy, sickness, or anything. The one constant and unchangeable variable is God, who has promised to never leave nor forsake His own.
David, above every other Bible character, knows the full meaning of crisis, but in Psalm 131:2, he said he had behaved and quieted himself as a child. Remaining silent under affliction was proof that he didn’t murmur but received all crises as coming from the hands of a just God. Yes, a just God who will not allow us, according to 1 Corinthians 10:13, to face any crisis beyond our endurance. In His severe mercy, God punctuates our lives in this fallen world with crisis moments of varying degrees, designed for our good as stated in Romans 8:28.
Besides, God will not allow us to suffer more than the strength He gives us; but as the crisis comes, He provides us with wisdom, discernment, and grace to overcome, and the opportunity to gain new knowledge, ability, and spiritual maturity whilst providing us with sufficient strength to resist the crisis. As the crisis comes in, He will make your way out.
Whatever crisis you are facing in your life right now should push you deeper into the word of God, lower in humility to the foot of the cross, and loudly without shame cry out for help. No matter what, look closely and deeply to see the opportunities that may arise out of the crisis. God’s grace will always be sufficient for us (2 Corinthians 12:9).
The Lord does not have abandoned projects; you will not be His first! Let the crisis be an opportunity for change.
PRAYER: By your grace, oh Lord, I choose to prevail in every crisis because you are with me. Help me to hold firm to you in all situations. In Jesus’ name, amen.
