DIVINE CONNECTION
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 CSB
Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts. [10] For if either falls, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to lift him up.
There are people we mix with who bring us wisdom, courage, confidence, and more. Conversely, mixing with others may stunt, limit, or even stop us from fulfilling our purpose or achieving anything. The Bible is packed full of examples of those whose lives were transformed or changed by the people they associated with.
Walking with the right person or people is called divine connection. A divine connection refers to a special relationship or bond orchestrated by God, often leading to significant spiritual growth, guidance, and the fulfilment of God’s purpose in one’s life.
In the Bible, “walking with the right person” often refers to living in harmony and alignment with God’s will and choosing companions who share similar values and faith. These principles underscore the importance of aligning oneself with God and choosing companions who share and support one’s faith and values. God-ordained relationships are divine connections that God uses to bring other people into our lives for a specific purpose.
The most notable divine connection and walking together is Ruth and Naomi in the Book of Ruth, which brought Boaz into Ruth’s life for God’s mandate for the Lord Jesus to be fulfilled. Ruth’s unwavering loyalty to her mother-in-law Naomi, and how God blessed their relationship, is a powerful example of steadfast support.
After Moses’ death, God appointed Joshua, who had walked and worked closely with Moses, as the successor to lead the conquest of Canaan. Joshua became an exemplary spiritual and military leader who guided the people to God’s promise.
Jonathan and David: Their deep friendship and loyalty, despite the challenges they faced, exemplify godly support and commitment (1 Samuel 18:1-4, 1 Samuel 20).
Paul and Timothy: The mentor-mentee relationship between Paul and Timothy highlights the importance of guidance, support, and encouragement in fulfilling God’s work (2 Timothy 1:1-7).
Elijah and Elisha: Elisha’s dedication to Elijah and his desire to continue Elijah’s prophetic ministry demonstrate the importance of mentorship and divine succession (2 Kings 2:1-15).
Barnabas and Paul: Barnabas’s role in supporting and advocating for Paul, especially when others doubted him, shows the impact of encouragement and belief in someone’s God-given potential (Acts 9:26-27, Acts 11:22-26).
Mary and Elizabeth: Their mutual support during their miraculous pregnancies highlights the importance of companionship and encouragement in times of divine intervention (Luke 1:39-45).
Esther and Mordecai: Esther would not have made it into the palace or become queen if she had not walked obediently with her cousin Mordecai. Her life changed forever due to this divine connection.
These biblical examples align with the themes of divine ordination, support, and loyalty, providing rich insights into how God places people in our lives for specific purposes and how mutual support and loyalty can lead to fulfilling God’s plans.
