DON’T REJECT GOD

1 Thessalonians 4:8 CSB

Consequently, anyone who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.


Psalm 14:1 says, “Only a fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” This verse is often interpreted as a warning against the rejection of God, atheism, and a call to faith in God. It describes the fool as corrupt and evil, with none of them doing good. The verse is used to argue that belief in God is necessary for morality. People reject God daily, even professing Christians deny and reject God, His power, truth, and word. The main reason for this denial is that people often cherish their life on earth more than their future life in eternity.

The times that Paul predicted in 2 Timothy 3:1-4, the times of difficulty that will occur in “the last days,” are already beginning to unfold. These are times of denying and rejecting the Lord and His truth, times when the unrighteous don’t want to hear the truth or anything about God. Why do people reject God anyway?

Israel kept rejecting God throughout their history for several reasons. One reason is found in 1 Samuel 8:7-8: their curiosity and yearning to be like the people around them, revealing their divided minds toward God that kept leading them astray. They wanted what everyone else wanted, not what God wanted for them. God didn’t want a king for Israel like they did. They thought this was a good enough reason to reject God Almighty.

God says He has a good plan, a hope, and a future for us that will bring us to His expected end. All good! As Job 28:28 says, the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, so the denial of God is the height of foolishness, according to R.C. Sproul.

“Are you not one of that man’s disciples?” Peter was asked this three times in John 18:15-27, and each time, his response was to reject Jesus, denying, “No, I am not.” Many of us, even confessing Christians, have the same response towards God sometimes.

Most people think being a Christian is not cool, and when we are ashamed of God, we deny Him. When it’s time to speak up and we remain silent, that’s denial. If we never share Christ with our friends or witness to the lost, that’s denying and rejecting God.

The enemy is so busy in the world right now that people who have even experienced God sometime in their lives give in to the enemy and reject God. 2 John 1:7 says that many deceivers have gone out into the world to deceive people into denying and rejecting God. They deny that Jesus Christ came in the flesh; such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist.

When we consider the truth of John 14:6 that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him, it is imperative to remember that nothing else matters in life. Nothing lasts forever like the word of God, according to Matthew 24:35. No amount of denying and rejecting God will change the outcome of our lives for the better.

“If we say” according to 1 John 1:6, that we have fellowship with God and yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. We profess to know God but deny and reject fellowship with Him.

Jesus says in Revelation 3:16 that our lukewarm indifference is disgusting to Him. We can’t pick and choose when we feel like committing to God and reject Him when things aren’t going our way. Rejecting God is not in anyone’s favour. Don’t be a fool who says in their heart that there is no God. This means that only fools stubbornly reject God and wisdom.

PRAYER: Father, help me to never under any circumstances in life reject your word, power and glory, may I be firmly tuned into your word, that I don’t get deceived in Jesus’ name, amen.
