GOD SEEKERS

Matthew 6:30-33 MSG

“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

The Lord has a care package for everyone. It depends on our needs and includes everything we need spiritually, physically, materially, and in every other way. The Lord never leaves anything to chance, especially the care of His saints. James 1:17 says that everything we’ll ever need comes from the Lord, and they are all good and perfect.

But only for seekers. Those who fervently and desperately seek after the Lord of Hosts, and not their own pleasure, wealth, or needs, are the ones whom all of God’s blessings will chase after and run over. Psalm 23:6 says the angels of goodness and mercy will follow us, pursuing us wherever we go, always and everywhere. At the same time, the Lord will rain down all we need, as He did with the Israelites in Exodus 16.

Seeking after the Lord guarantees that we will always receive our care package, prepared before time by the Lord, waiting for the appointed time to be delivered. According to Psalm 102:13, each care package is prepared for an appointed time. There is no waste in God’s kingdom; we therefore receive what we need when we need it.

The Lord says in Matthew 6:32 that He knows what we need, and like the good Father He is, He will not give us less, more, or unfit things, as described in Matthew 7:11-12. Jeremiah 29:13 commands us to seek the Lord with all our heart, promising that we will find Him. Seeking God is a conscious effort that directs our minds and hearts toward God through prayer, His Word, and following His guidance.

As Isaiah 55:1-3 says, come and buy from the Lord without money. We can allow the Lord to give us all we need without spending effort, time, and energy chasing after things that have no worth or value. “Incline your ears and come to me,” we must lean in and listen to the Lord’s voice to direct us to wherever and whatever He’s prepared for us when we seek Him earnestly.

We neglected to seek God in every way with all our hearts, and things still didn’t work out as we planned. We spent valuable time and energy (in some cases, money) seeking things that we couldn’t find. But God tells us in Proverbs 8:17 that we’ll always find Him if we seek Him. Seeking God must be constant and deliberate, to pursue His guidance, wisdom, and empowerment always, according to Psalm 105:4, because we need God’s strength to do whatever is required of us and His face to benevolently shine on us always.

God seekers are those whom the Lord will grant full understanding of the times and seasons, according to Proverbs 28:5. It’s in seeking the Lord that we gain wisdom and guidance that helps us to discern between right and wrong and live according to God’s will. Everything outside the Lord is a shadow, and the more we chase after them, the further they get out of our reach. But when we seek the Lord, He brings our needs to us at our level, showering us with blessings, as described in Hosea 10:12.

Christ says His yoke is easy for us in Matthew 11:30, ensuring that the Holy Spirit will help and guide us in seeking the Lord in prayer, obedience, persistence, praise, and worship, within and through fellowship, in our desire for knowledge and understanding, and total surrender to His will and purpose.

God seeker, seeking the Lord should be our goal in the new year and onwards. It should and must be a continuous pursuit for spiritual growth and maturity through the intimate knowledge and relationship with the Trinity (God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Let our story not be like that of the wicked spoken of in Psalm 119:155, “Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek out your decrees.”

Seek the Lord with all that is within you!

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for inviting me into fellowship with you, help me to seek your face always and chase after you with all my strength in Jesus’ name, amen.
