PLEASE SEND SOMEONE ELSE!
Exodus 4:13 TLB
But Moses said, "Lord, please! Send someone else."
How many times does the Lord give us an assignment or instructions, and we turn and say, “send someone else”? We often respond to instructions in our daily lives with, “please send someone else to do it because I don't think I can do it.” We might say, “Can you not send someone else?” or “Could you please send someone else because I don’t want to do it, I don’t know where to start, I haven’t got the time, I don’t know how, and I don’t even want to try.” We often think someone else can do it better, or we don’t want to be pressured, inconvenienced, or stressed.
Moses was ready to forfeit his God-given position because he thought he was unqualified and inadequate for the role. How about you? Do you feel inadequate? Many people, like Moses, are willing to forfeit their position because they think they are inadequate to carry out God’s assignments.
Many characters in the Bible probably felt the same way. Starting with Abraham, called to be the father of nations, and many more after him like Daniel, David, Paul, and even our Lord Jesus Christ, who asked the Father in Matthew 26:39 to let the cup of affliction pass by Him if it were possible.
Are you in that category? Has the Lord given you an assignment that you think you are unqualified or inadequate to do? Something you think you can’t do because of other commitments, lack of time, or simply because you don’t want to do it?
Give it to someone else! Use someone else! Send someone else! Barak was told in Judges 4 to go to war but wanted someone else to go with him. He was willing to forfeit the reward and victory. We do the same; we forfeit our rewards, promotions, and anointing because we feel inadequate and refuse to take the step of faith and trust the Lord to lead us where He wants us.
What’s your plan, your idea, your opinion concerning the things of the spirit? Do they matter in God’s plans? No one can do God’s work, kingdom assignments, and spiritual activities effectively in this world without first going through and graduating from God’s school of hard knocks and patience that grows us.
Think about it, God supplies everything for the assignment and asks us to just go. The fruit of the spirit is the enabler we need for spiritual walk and work. We cannot do the work of the spirit with physical or fleshy things.
Does the apple tree or any other tree feed on its fruit? No. The apple tree is sustained internally to produce the apple for others to enjoy. The fruit we produce is for those around us and not for us, as 1 Peter 4:10-11 says.
God gives us all the measure of faith needed to discharge our spiritual gifts, as stated in Romans 12:6. The gifts are for the edification of the body of Christ, so our assignment is for others and not for “you.” So, if we say like Moses did, “pardon me, I can’t go, send someone else!” Leave me be!
Who? Send who, now? Who did Moses expect God to send, and who do we think God should send? Who do we, like Moses, want God to send to do the things God created, raised, called, and trained us for?
God prepares us in the wilderness, as He did with Moses, and we turn around and say, “send someone else.” God has put in us all we need to do the assignment, as stated in verse twenty-one. You are graced to go; do not allow someone else to go in your place.
PRAYER: Father, may I never miss my assignment and refuse to rise to your calling, but to step out in faith.
