LIGHT UP YOUR WORLD!
Isaiah 60:1-5 Voice
Arise, shine, for your light has broken through! The Eternal One's brilliance has dawned upon you. [2] See truly; look carefully-darkness blankets the earth; people all over are cloaked in darkness. But God will rise and shine on you; the Eternal's bright glory will shine on you, a light for all to see. [3] Nations north and south, peoples east and west, will be drawn to your light, will find purpose and direction by your light. In the radiance of your rising, you will enlighten the leaders of nations. [4] Don't be shy; don't be doubtful; lift up your eyes and look around. They have gathered all around you, eager to come and be close to you. And your children will come back to this land: your sons from the farthest places of wandering, and your daughters gently carried home. [5] And when you see it, your face will glow; your heart will race and be filled with joy; For great ships will arrive with gifts from across the sea, and the wealth of nations will make their way to you.
The Lord is shining on us, so we can shine in and on our world! You are planted wherever you are on earth to be a light, bringing out God's color in the monochromatic world around you. Your light is to bring people out of trouble and darkness and into God's light and peace. God is not a secret that needs to be kept quiet or hidden; our lives are meant to light up the world around us. You are to go public with the message of the cross like a city on a hill. Psalm 18:28 says God makes our light shine and light up the darkness.
Light has many different shades and colors, the inner glow that expresses itself through the enlightenment of joy, light, and life that is visible on the countenance. Light is the natural symbol of all that is pleasant, good, and uplifting, as presented in the contrast between the Egyptians in darkness and the Israelites in the light in Exodus 10:21-23. Let the divine illumination of God's light in you help you to be a light to the world.
The Lord uses the cracks in us, broken vessels, to illuminate the world around us. A broken vessel is what the Lord needs and uses to do His will; an otherwise useless, unworthy vessel that is only good for the dump becomes a treasure in God's hand, as declared in 2 Corinthians 4:7. Let your light shine brightly in whatever you do to maximize the impact on those around you. Do not hide your light or allow anything or anyone to dim or put out your light.
Do not hide your light under the cloak of religion, legalism, political correctness, politics, societal expectations, or the lies of the enemy, becoming an obstacle to the very people the Lord has sent you to impact. Live and walk in the light: follow Jesus completely and allow your character to be built into a signpost for others to follow and reach God.
The darkness in the world right now is so deep that it needs the light of God, and we are the light the Lord has sent to a dark, dingy, and scared world to illuminate, resuscitate, revive, and recharge. Are you allowing Christ's light to shine through you unto the world? God's light in us is the beacon that attracts the lost to Christ, so shine we must.
Your character is what makes you unique; your essence is what marks you wherever you go to attract people to Christ through you or repel them from following Christ. When you walk in godly character and essence, you easily and joyfully exhibit the fruit of the Spirit, and your light shines through radiantly to lighten your path and touch lives.
If a lamp doesn't help people see, it is useless. Does your life show other people how to find God and how to live for Him? If not, ask yourself what has extinguished your light. Things like complacency, resentment, stubbornness of heart, or disobedience could keep God's light from shining through you to others, according to Matthew 5:16. Let that flickering light mentioned in Proverbs 4:18 grow steadily until it becomes a fireball, so that others may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds, and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
When we follow Jesus, the true light, we avoid walking blindly, groping, and stumbling into sin. Your light reflects the light of God within you, Jesus inside of you: when allowed to blaze, it makes you a witness of Christ, according to Philippians 2:15. 1 Thessalonians 5:5 calls us children of light; we should then be seen as light by everyone around us.
PRAYER: Father, may your joyous light in me, draw men to you as I express your peace and hope to the hungry and thirsty world around me in Jesus’ name, amen.
