SPIRITUAL LEGAL GROUND!

Ephesians 4:26-27 TLB

If you are angry, don't sin by nursing your grudge. Don't let the sun go down with you still angry-get over it quickly; [27] for when you are angry, you give a mighty foothold to the devil.


Spiritual legal grounds refer to actions, behaviours, or sins that can give spiritual entities, such as demons, the right to influence or affect a person's life. Legal rights are permissions or openings that allow spiritual entities to enter or influence a person's life. Common legal rights include unconfessed sins, involvement in occult practices, or holding onto unforgiveness.

Just as there are physical laws, there are believed to be spiritual laws that govern the spiritual realm. Demons are thought to operate within these laws, and they need a legal right to affect someone.

Paul admonishes us especially about anger as it’s one of the things that would give an opportunity to the devil to do evil. This means we must daily control and deal with our anger issues, as sin may come from there (although not all anger is sin). We mustn’t give the enemy a legal ground through anger to do us evil.

Legal ground relates to themes of authority, covenant, rights, and the basis for spiritual claims or accusations. While the exact phrase "legal ground" may not appear in the Bible, several verses can be interpreted as relevant to this idea.

Our accuser, according to Revelation 12:10, is always on the prowl looking for loopholes in our lives to use as a legal ground against us. Some of us have unknowingly allowed the enemy to successfully win his case against us (at least for a while), until we come to the realization that our advocate, Jesus Christ, according to 1 John 2:1, takes up our cause before God the Father. Otherwise, sin would bring judgment upon us.

When we allow the enemy a foothold, he becomes a stronghold that we continue to battle to overcome until we seize back the legal ground from him.

Whatever legal ground you may have given or allowed the enemy to have in your case, the Lord says in Isaiah 41:21 to bring your counter case and proof and promises to challenge the enemy’s case on our behalf.

Christ's victory over spiritual authorities suggests that we are no longer under their legal claims, as stated in Colossians 2:15: "And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross." At the same time, the Lord raises a standard against every legal ground according to Isaiah 59:19.

The enemy uses sin as a legal ground, but Romans 6:14 assures us that sin will no longer rule us, indicating a change in legal standing for believers who are under grace rather than law. When we confess and repent of our sins, as encouraged in 1 John 1:9, the Lord’s justice nullifies the accusation of the enemy and overturns his legal ground.

We must not give the enemy any room to use legal ground against us in receiving from the Lord what grace paid for in full. Colossians 2:14 tells us that Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection cancel every legal demand that the enemy makes against us: "By canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross."

Deuteronomy 28 implies that our obedience or disobedience could be a legal ground for the enemy. The blessings and curses associated with obedience or disobedience to God's laws can be viewed as establishing legal grounds for consequences.

The Lord has blessed us in uncountable ways, but John 10:10 says, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." We must understand who has legal ground over us and recognize the work of Jesus versus the work of evil.

Do not give the enemy a foothold or legal ground over your life.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You in humility, confessing my sins and asking for Your forgiveness. I renounce any actions or thoughts that have given the enemy a foothold in my life. Purify me and strengthen me to resist temptation. Help me to live in Your light and truth, free from spiritual bondage. In Jesus' name, Amen.
