CASE SETTLED!
2 Kings 8:1-6 AMPC
Now Elisha had said to the woman whose son he had restored to life, Arise and go with your household and sojourn wherever you can, for the Lord has called for a famine, and moreover, it will come upon the land for seven years. [2] So the woman arose and did as the man of God had said. She went with her household and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years. [3] At the end of the seven years the woman returned from the land of the Philistines, and she went to appeal to the king for her house and land. [4] The king talked with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me all the great things Elisha has done. [5] And as Gehazi was telling the king how [Elisha] had restored the dead to life, behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life appealed to the king for her house and land. And Gehazi said, My lord O king, this is the woman, and this is her son whom Elisha brought back to life. [6] When the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed to her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land even until now.
We all know the relief that comes from being free from a heavy burden, especially one that may have far-reaching and long-lasting effects. Sometimes, these things require external or professional help. But the Lord says every issue and case against us is settled. You know the feeling you get when you’ve been through a lengthy battle that seems to have no end in sight. You keep hoping and waiting for it to be over, but it drags on. In the meantime, you look for people to speak on your behalf with those you think or expect to help you, but nothing seems to work.
Psalm 119:89 says God’s word about you is already settled, including every case that is yet to arise. Imagine running around looking for someone to help you when an issue comes up, only to find out that the Lord has set it up so that not only were you in the right place at the right time, but that you had the highest authority in the land already aware of your case and willing to help you. Although, the Lord has settled all that concerns us, we must regularly pray and express our concerns to God, knowing that He hears us even before we speak to strengthen our faith by recalling His promises in scriptures like Isaiah 65:24.
There are people we expect to come to our help when we call them, but for their own reasons, they choose not to answer. For those who do, they may not really have much to offer us, or they choose not to help us. But God promises to answer us even before we call Him and to hear us before we speak, as stated in Isaiah 65:24. That means all we need to do is call on Him.
Amid life’s storms, God’s plans align with His will to make life smooth and easy for us. God brought famine to punish Israel’s sin but made plans to spare the Shunammite woman who had shown Elisha kindness in 2 Kings 4:8-37 by asking him to warn the woman of the impending seven years of lack.
The Lord sent Joseph ahead to Egypt to settle and save the Israelites when the time came, as described in Psalm 105:16-25, for the plan of God that was settled long ago. The Shunammite woman’s case had been settled by the Lord from the beginning of her journey!
How many times have you walked into a room and felt like they were talking about you? The look on their faces says you’re the topic of discussion. That feeling still wouldn’t come close to how the Shunammite woman felt when she walked into King Joram’s palace to appeal her case, only to discover that her case had already been presented to the king.
Our advocate, Jesus, is always presenting our cases to the Lord. So, when we take the case to the Lord, we find out it was already settled. When she dwelt securely among her people in 2 Kings 4:13, she had no reason to be spoken for to the king; but there is no certainty in life.
Things and people will fail us when we most depend on them, and those who we think we shall never need become essential to our progress and settle the case. Sometimes events, small in themselves, prove to be a puzzle piece to complete the whole picture, as in this woman’s case. They made the king ready to believe Gehazi's narrative when confirmed. It made him ready to settle her case speedily and completely.
Whatever case you have right now, be confident that the Lord has that “case settled” even before you get to present it to Him. Case settled!
PRAYER: Righteous Judge and Father, thank you for settling every case for and against me in Jesus’ name, amen.
