YOU PRAYED FOR IT!
John 16:23 Voice
When all this transpires, you will finally have the answers
you have been seeking. I tell you the truth, anything you ask of the Father in
My name, He will give to you.
We’ve all either been that person or known someone who prayed
earnestly for something, only for it to become the very thing that draws them
away from God.
When we’re desperate, we know how to petition the Lord with fervour.
We plead and make promises, hoping to move Him to act as quickly as we desire.
Yet, sometimes what we pray and plead for may already belong to us, or it may
not align with the Lord’s plans for us at that time—or at all.
You prayed for it, and you got it!
Philippians 4:6 instructs us: “Do not worry about anything;
instead, pray about everything. Tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank
Him for His answers.” Everything—big or small—should be taken to the Lord in
prayer. There is nothing too great or too insignificant for His loving care!
Yet, how often do these very blessings later become the reasons we no longer
seek after God with the same passion? How often do we stop praying as earnestly
or attending fellowship as faithfully?
The blessing we once chased after can become the obstacle
that hinders the Lord from reaching us.
Proverbs 10:22 reminds us: “The blessing of the Lord brings
wealth, without painful toil for it.” God’s blessings enrich our lives, and He
adds no sorrow with them. Sorrow, sickness, and suffering do not come from God
but from Satan, though God may permit them for His greater purpose.
Labour, apart from God, adds nothing to His blessings. Toil
is good, but when it pulls us away from God, becomes the centre of our
existence, and creates a barrier between us and Him, it loses its value. As
Psalm 127:1-2 explains, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour
in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in
vain.”
Often, we pray for blessings, yet instead of allowing the
Lord—who supplied them—to sustain them, we take it upon ourselves to keep them
through our own efforts. This can turn a blessing into a curse or even an idol.
God has generously provided us with both personal and
financial resources to meet our needs and those of others. If every believer
recognized how richly God has blessed them and used those resources for His
purposes, hunger and poverty could be eradicated.
Sadly, some who once attended every meeting, helped wherever
they could, and diligently supported the kingdom’s work become too busy for God
once their prayers are answered. They cite the very job they prayed for as the
reason for neglecting the Lord. Others pray for children, but once they receive
them, they become so engrossed in caring for them that they forget God. And if
the child doesn’t turn out as they hoped, they even place the blame on the
Lord.
Remember, whatever you received, you prayed for.
God answers prayer, and when you ask, request whatever you
need—but always within His will, as 1 John 5:14 says: *“If we ask anything
according to His will, He hears us.” Be sure that whatever blessing He gives
won’t become a barrier between you and Him.
PRAYER: Father, may I be wise and discerning in pray to only
ask for those things that are beneficially aligned with your will for me in
Jesus’ name, amen.
