POSITIONED FOR GOD'S PURPOSE!
Judges 4:11-22 ESV
Now Heber the Kenite had
separated from the Kenites, the descendants of Hobab the father-in-law of
Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the oak in Zaanannim, which is
near Kedesh. [12] When Sisera was told that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone
up to Mount Tabor, [13] Sisera called out all his chariots, 900 chariots of
iron, and all the men who were with him, from Harosheth-hagoyim to the river
Kishon. [14] And Deborah said to Barak, "Up! For this is the day in which
the LORD has given Sisera into your hand. Does not the LORD go out before
you?" So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with 10,000 men following him.
[15] And the LORD routed Sisera and all his chariots and all his army before
Barak by the edge of the sword. And Sisera got down from his chariot and fled
away on foot. [16] And Barak pursued the chariots and the army to
Harosheth-hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword;
not a man was left. [17] But Sisera fled away on foot to the tent of Jael, the
wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor
and the house of Heber the Kenite. [18] And Jael came out to meet Sisera and
said to him, "Turn aside, my lord; turn aside to me; do not be
afraid." So he turned aside to her into the tent, and she covered him with
a rug. [19] And he said to her, "Please give me a little water to drink,
for I am thirsty." So she opened a skin of milk and gave him a drink and
covered him. [20] And he said to her, "Stand at the opening of the tent,
and if any man comes and asks you, 'Is anyone here?' say, 'No.'" [21] But
Jael the wife of Heber took a tent peg, and took a hammer in her hand. Then she
went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple until it went down into
the ground while he was lying fast asleep from weariness. So he died. [22] And
behold, as Barak was pursuing Sisera, Jael went out to meet him and said to
him, "Come, and I will show you the man whom you are seeking." So he
went in to her tent, and there lay Sisera dead, with the tent peg in his temple.
Are You Positioned for God’s
Purpose?
Do you truly know your
position wherever you are? More importantly, are you positioned for God’s
divine purpose? To be positioned for God’s purpose is to be placed by His hand
in a specific place and time, ready to act with wisdom and courage when He calls.
It is to be “cunningly placed,” not by human planning alone, but by the
sovereign guidance of the Holy Spirit, prepared to seize the moment He ordains.
Many of us long to make a
greater impact for God, yet we often miss the quiet, divine appointments He
sets before us. We fail to recognize the sacred opportunities because we are
distracted or unaware. But God’s timing is perfect, and His positioning is intentional.
Consider the story of Jael,
the wife of Heber. Heber was a Kenite, a semi-nomadic tribe related to the
Midianites. He became an ally to Jabin, the enemy of Israel. Yet, in the midst
of divided loyalties and political alliances, God placed Jael in a unique
position. Though her husband’s allegiance was with the enemy, Jael’s heart was
aligned with God’s purposes.
How often do relationships
test our loyalty? How often do we find ourselves caught between friends,
family, or circumstances that challenge our faithfulness? Jael’s story reminds
us that God’s purposes transcend human alliances. She chose to stand with God’s
people, even when it meant going against her immediate surroundings.
When Sisera, the commander
of Jabin’s army, fled from the victorious Israelites, he sought refuge in
Jael’s tent, expecting safety because of the alliance with her husband. But
Jael, filled with God’s courage and discernment, welcomed him kindly, only to
strike a decisive blow that would bring victory to Israel.
This act was not just
bravery; it was obedience to God’s plan. Jael was alert, vigilant, and ready.
She recognized the moment God had placed before her and seized it with faith
and boldness. Her actions fulfilled Deborah’s prophecy and demonstrated that God
can use anyone—man or woman, in any position—to accomplish His will.
Beloved, God calls each of
us to be like Jael: watchful, ready, and willing to act when He moves. Isaiah
6:8 echoes in our hearts, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” Will you
answer this call? Will you say, “Here I am, Lord. Use me where I am, as I am”?
The enemy prowls, seeking to
steal, kill, and destroy the purposes God has for us. But when we are firmly
rooted in God’s Word and led by the Holy Spirit, we can stand strong and deal
the enemy a decisive blow. We must be spiritually alert, discerning the times,
and courageous in our response.
Remember, your position is
not accidental. God has placed you where you are for a divine purpose. Trust
Him to guide your steps, empower your actions, and fulfill His plan through
you.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I
thank You for placing me where I am. Help me to be alert and courageous, ready
to serve Your purpose with wisdom and boldness. Strengthen me to stand firm
against the enemy and to walk in obedience to Your will. May my life bring
glory to Your name as I faithfully fulfill the calling You have placed on me.
In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen.
