Happy new year! Welcome to the new year! 

God dey do new thing: welcome to this long-awaited and expected year of the Lord 2026. Year of covenant! Now we don enter, wetin come be the next thing? 

New year dey always carry new hope, fresh beginning, proof of God faithfulness, and new season under Him Lordship — even though Bible no use the exact words “Happy New Year.” 

But the problem be say many of us dey behave like na only January, or first three months, be new year. Why new year no fit be every time for our mind and for our spirit? 

Plenty people dey start with “new year resolutions” — things wey dem talk say dem go start to do or things wey dem go stop. But truth be say, many no go even reach end of January. 

We must remember God plans and future for us, as Jeremiah 29:11 talk say na thoughts of peace and not evil, to give us good end. 

E good to plan and prepare for new year, but we suppose remember say na only God fit make plans stand. Psalm 37:5 remind us make we commit our ways give the Lord so He go bring am to pass. 

Bible encourage us to examine our life and change if need be, no be only when new year just start. Psalm 17:3 show example say we suppose plan to keep our mouth clean: “I don plan no evil; my mouth never cross line.” 

Ephesians 4:22–24 encourage us make we remove the old person — that old lifestyle wey no dey trust or serve Christ with seriousness. We must allow God renew our mind as Romans 12:2 talk, so that as we study and obey God Word, we go begin think new and correct thoughts. 

New year suppose be fresh beginning for us, especially for spiritual matter. We go try not just enter new year, but remain inside am with renewed mind. 

Many of us waka like people for wilderness throughout last year — dey wish, pray and hope say God go do something new. God don promise say He go do new thing — something wey never happen before, wonderful and special — not just for beginning of year, but always. 

We like to make resolutions wey sometimes no realistic at all, and na why many dey fail. Sometimes na just wishful thinking with no real step to reach the goal. Other times, we no gree pay the price or make the sacrifice to see am happen. 

But when we plan with God, as Proverbs 16:9 talk, He dey order and establish our steps, so failure chance small. Even if you don make resolutions, who really dey check you whether you still dey keep am? Nobody! Before you know am, person don fall out. But when we make godly plans, Scripture dey hold us accountable to obey. 

We must remember Romans 7:18 — real wahala to fail the resolutions dey inside us. All of us wan be better people, but no matter how we try, we still dey stumble because of weakness. Even Paul talk am: “I get desire to do good, but I no fit do am out as I want.” 

Psalm 65:11 talk say God dey crown our year with Him goodness and make our path overflow with abundance. 

Deuteronomy 7:13 also show say if we obey God covenant, blessings go follow. Everything we need, want, or desire for this new year dey inside the Lord. May this year truly be wonderful for you. 

REFLECTION QUESTIONS 

- For which area of my life I need to “remove old self” and accept renewal? 

- Wetin I fit do to make sure my plans match God will? 

- How I fit trust God to “crown my year with goodness” even when situation no clear? 

- How I fit keep this sense of “newness” and spiritual freshness beyond January alone? 

PRAYER: Thank You Lord for privilege to see another year, thank You for gift of life. I put my life and everything about me for Your hand, make You perfect all wey concern me this year, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
