PIDGIN MARCH FOR JESUS!

2 Timothy 2:3–4 “Make yu dey ready to sofa as mi and odas dey sofa, so dat yu go bi good soja for Christ. 4Nor-tin koncern sojas with tins wey ordinary pipol dey do; if not, e nor go do wetin en oga wont.

Every Christian get marching order from the Supreme General, the Captain of the Lord of Hosts. Our marching order come from the highest Authority for Matthew 28:19–20 — make we go and make disciples.

“Soldiers of Christ, arise” na hymn wey Charles Wesley, founder of Methodist church, write. People wey follow John and Charles Wesley that time really put their life for risk. One writer say, “Dem treat them badly — stone them, beat them, push them inside water, chase them with bulldog, threaten them, scatter their houses, and destroy their business. Anybody wey waka pass town fit know Methodist house by the way e don spoil.”

For 1749, Charles write this hymn under the title “The Whole Armour of God,” and dem dey use am to confirm new converts. Even though most believers today no face the same physical danger wey Wesley and him people face, we still need to wear the full armour of God.

Spiritual warfare still serious like before. We be soldiers of Christ, we must rise and march for God kingdom. You ready and dey willing to march for Christ? You don wear your armour — the full armour of God?

Remember “Onward, Christian Soldiers,” wey Sabine BaringGould write. He be thirtyoneyearold preacher and schoolteacher when he write am. Him just wan get marching song for him schoolchildren. Later he even apologise say, I write am in hurry, some rhymes no too correct. He say, I want make the children sing as dem dey march from one village to another, but I no see anything wey fit, so I stay awake all night to write something myself.

From history reach now, many people don ready to do extra for God kingdom — some even die for am. Real soldiers no dey first think of their safety; dem dey think of their calling and loyalty to the cause wey dem dey march for. For Christians, the gospel na legacy wey worth to fight and even die for. As servants of the gospel, we dey push through the suffering and groaning of this world with our eye fixed on home and on Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith. We dey go forward with the understanding say our fight no be against wetin eye fit see, no be flesh and blood, but against rulers and authorities of the unseen world (Ephesians 6:12).

Soldiers no dey serve to protect themselves; dem dey protect the interest of their homeland. For battle, no space for pride, ego or showoff. Wetin matter na to obey commanders instruction.

Think about Paul words to him young son Timothy: “Suffer hardship with me, as good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier wey dey on active duty go tie himself with everyday life matter, so that he fit please the one wey enlist am as soldier.” Na our duty, our responsibility and our honour be that — to serve and march for God kingdom.

The Lord Himself go march with us and even go ahead of us. Isaiah 42:13 say, “The Lord go march out like champion, like warrior He go stir Him zeal; with shout He go raise battle cry and He go win over His enemies.”

2 Samuel 5:24 say, “Once you hear sound of marching for top of the poplar trees, move quick, because that one mean say the Lord don go ahead of you to strike the Philistine army.” So you see, as believers we no really get option — we must keep marching for the General of our faith wey don give the order.

No forget your marching order — the Great Commission. And make this chorus remain your anthem:

“When the saints go marching in, Oh, when the saints go marching in, Lord, I want to be in that number, When the saints go marching in.”

For this month of March, march for Jesus!

REFLECTION QUESTION

·       Which marching order God don show me personally, and I dey obey am actively or I don allow everyday life tie me down?

·       For which area I need strengthen my spiritual armour so I fit stand well and march forward as soldier of Christ?

·       How my daily life — my words, actions and choices — fit clearly show say I dey march for Jesus and dey push Him kingdom forward?

PRAYER: Father, I thank You for the opportunity to openly declare my faith and share Your love with the world. Make my march for this month become strong testimony of Your grace and truth, in Jesus’ name, amen.
