1 Samuel 28:1–25

Saul gada all en sojas for Israel kon kamp for Gilboa. 5Wen Saul si sey Filistia sojas plenty well-well, e kon dey fear. 6So Saul pray to God, but God nor gri listin to am. God nor even ansa am for dream or thru profet or Urim.

7So Saul kommand en savants, “Make una go find any woman wey dey do majik kom, so dat I go-go ask am wetin go happen.” En savant ansa, “E get one majik woman for Endor.” 8Saul dress so dat pipol nor go know sey na en den e kon go with two of en men. Wen dem rish where di woman dey for nite, e kon sey, “Abeg, make yu use yor pawa take koll di pesin spirit wey I go tell yu.” 9Di woman ansa am, “Si! Yu know wetin Saul don do; e don porshu di pipol wey dey si vishon and doz wey dey do majik komot from di land. So why yu dey kom try mi, so dat dem go kill mi?” 10But Saul kon use God take swear sey, “As long as God dey alive, nor-tin go happen to yu.” 11So di woman ansa, “Na wish pesin name yu wont make I koll?” Saul ansa, “Na Samuel wey don die.” 12Wen di woman si Samuel, di woman kon kry well-well sey, “Wetin make yu deceive mi? Yu bi Saul!” 13Di king ansa, “Nor let fear katch yu. Wetin yu si?” Di woman ansa, “I dey si pesin wey bi like god dey kom out from groun!” 14Di king ask di woman, “Na how e look like?” Di woman ansa, “Na old man dey kom so-o! Dem wrap en body with klot!” Den Saul know sey na Samuel and e kon bow face groun. 15Samuel kon tell Saul, “Wetin make yu dey disturb mi? Wetin make yu koll mi kom back?” Saul ansa, “I dey for big wahala! Filistia pipol dey fight mi and God nor dey ansa mi again. E nor dey listin to mi or tok to mi thru profet or dream. So I kon koll yu, so dat yu go tell mi wetin I go do.” 16Samuel kon sey, “Wetin make yu dey ask mi naw wey God don turn from yu kon bi yor enemy? 17God dey do wetin E tok. E don tear di kingdom from yor hand kon gi-am to David. 18Since yu nor gri obey God and yu nor show en vexnashon to doz Amalek pipol, God don ponish yu today. 19God go give yu and Israel pipol to Filistia pipol. Tumoro, both yu and yor sons go dey with mi. God go still give Israel sojas to Filistia pipol.”

20Saul kon kwik-kwik sleep for groun for der and e kon dey fear, bikos of wetin Samuel tok. E nor get any pawa to waka again, bikos e nor chop anytin from morning go rish nite. 21Wen di woman kom meet and si how Saul dey fear rish, di woman kon tell am, “Yor savant don do wetin yu ask am. I risk my life kon do wetin yu tell mi. 22Naw, na yor turn to listin to yor savant. Make I give yu some bread make yu chop. Wen yu don get pawa again, yu fit dey go.” 23But Saul sey, “I nor wont chop.” En savants and di woman beg am well-well, so e kon gri with dem. E get up from groun kon sidan for di bed. 24Di woman kwik-kwik kill di small melu wey e get, take some flower, prepare am kon bake bread wey nor get yist. 25E gi-am to Saul and en savants and dem kon chop. Den dem go back, dat same nite.

 

Deceit no fit ever produce righteousness, and worldliness no fit bring spiritual result. For God eye, witchcraft dey the same category as idolatry. People don dey worship and dey find supernatural power wey no be from God right from beginning. 

Satan dey use witchcraft block people from finding true holiness for God alone. He dey use things like mediums, horoscope, some games and practices to draw people comot from God go meet power wey dey promise self–enlightenment. 

Make we talk true, human beings like power — the more dangerous, the more attractive. For these last few years, witchcraft don slowly become normal topic and practice for many areas of society. Worse be say, some “so‑called Christians” don join body. 

Many people no even know say dem don enter witchcraft because e dey come as fun, entertainment or harmless joke. But Galatians 5:19–20 list am clearly as work of the flesh. 

Even Christians don join this train — both adults and children. Dem dey watch and enjoy things like Harry Potter, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, games wey teach how to cast spell, tarot card reading and many other things wey look innocent but na deadly pastime. 

Old saying talk say, “The road to destruction dey paved with good intentions.” Judgment no go base on wetin we mean to do, but wetin we really do. 

God no dey reward good intention; He dey reward righteous action. Saul die inside disobedience because he no obey God word. Instead of seeking God, he go meet witch to find direction. E fit look like say Saul intention good — he wan enquire of prophet Samuel — but two big problem dey: Samuel don die, and Saul go consult witch (practice wey he himself ban for the land in verse 3). So God judge Saul, no be for intention, but for action. 

2 Corinthians 5:10 talk say all of us go stand before God to answer for our works, no be just our intentions. Witchcraft, sorcery, magic and all their cousins are seriously condemned for Bible (Exodus 22:18). These things dey seduce people away from their loyalty to God, the only One wey get right to judge and guide us. 

To dey peep future na attempt to take God place. All this foretelling of events dey corrupt people mind and shift dem away from God and Him true revelation. For verses 7–9, we see Saul wey know say witchcraft bad, but because of desperation he still run go the same thing wey he outlaw, instead of running go the Maker of all things. 

We no fit find true help or answer from creation. Psalm 121 ask, “Shall I look to the mountains for help?” The answer na no. Only the Creator know and get wetin we really need. 

If witchcraft good, God for no warn us against am. E for no dey operate in secret. But every evil work dey love darkness, as Ezekiel 8:7–12 show. This generation, however, don carry witchcraft and all kinds of idolatry enter open — even enter church. Things like Halloween, solstice rituals, séance, hexing — people dey celebrate and clap for them. Dem fit look harmless and normal on the outside, but dem fully evil and destructive inside. 

The wide road easy to follow, like Matthew 7:13 talk, but e only lead to death. To dey play with occult or magic in the name of “want know God more” or “see vision” na big lie from the pit of hell, as Isaiah 8:19–22 warn. We no dey find God by any means we like; na only through Christ we fit come to Him (Acts 4:12). 

The road to Endor — the path of witchcraft, shortcuts, and disobedience — only get one destination: death.

  • ·       For which ways I fit dey unknowingly open door to practices or influence wey dey shift my focus from God, even if dem look harmless or culturally normal? 
  • ·       I dey truly rely on God Word and Holy Spirit for guidance, or I dey look for answer, clarity or control from other sources when God seem silent? 
  • ·       Which “good intentions” for my life need to match righteous actions so I go walk in full obedience to God? 

PRAYER: Lord God, help me to understand the truth of Your Word wey fit set me free from every deceitful lie of the enemy, so that I no go dey misled to seek You elsewhere. In Jesus’ name, amen.
