RESET!
Isaiah 38:1-6 TLB
It was just before all this that Hezekiah became deathly sick, and Isaiah the prophet (Amoz' son) went to visit him and gave him this message from the Lord: "Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die; you will not recover from this illness." [2] When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed: [3] "O Lord, don't you remember how true I've been to you and how I've always tried to obey you in everything you said?" Then he broke down with great sobs. [4] So the Lord sent another message to Isaiah: [5] "Go and tell Hezekiah that the Lord God of your forefather David hears you praying and sees your tears and will let you live fifteen more years. [6] He will deliver you and this city from the king of Assyria. I will defend you, says the Lord,
We all could use a reset button that can be pressed anytime things don't go as planned. While it's not physically possible to start over in certain circumstances, the Lord can reset aspects of our lives. To reset means to set again, to put something back to its original state, like resetting to factory settings or a brand-new state. Resetting can bring something back to a neutral representation.
There are areas in our lives that we would love to reset, such as family matters due to breakdowns, new career paths, challenging work environments, physical or mental health challenges, and more. The Lord can reset whatever we need Him to reset.
James 5:16 says, "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." We all need a reset in life at some point, and we can achieve this through prayer. We need to start and keep dialoguing with God to get that reset. When we pray for a reset, it means we are ready for a new thing and are asking God to help us start afresh without previous history limiting us, as seen in Revelation 21:5.
After Hezekiah poured out his heart in prayer to God in deep humility, asking God to meet his need because he had stayed faithful to God's covenant by submitting to God's values, the Lord answered him with grace and power. How sure are you of God's covenant?
Notice that Hezekiah based his prayer request for healing on his faithfulness to God—not God's faithfulness to him. Many of us believe we must accept godly announcements and pronouncements without consideration, unlike Hezekiah, who petitioned God for a change of sentence. The Lord's favorable response illustrates His willingness to hear and answer our prayers.
While there is an agreement that God doesn't change His mind, scriptures show that when a righteous person is fervent in faith, God can change His intentions—not His person, which never changes. We see in Exodus 32:9-14, John 2:1-12, and Genesis 18:16-32 that intentions were changed, and there was a reset through bargaining.
Hezekiah received a confirmation of his reset instantly, even when he asked God for something naturally impossible. God's guarantee to him was to make the shadow on the sundial go ten steps backward, giving Hezekiah a supernatural signature to his reset. The miracle of the sundial proves Prophet Isaiah’s worthiness and God’s faithfulness, as well as a confirmation of God's answer to Hezekiah’s prayer.
God is able and willing to turn the sundial of your life to a reset. Have you asked God for a reset? Then push the reset button. Verse 2 states that Hezekiah cried to the Lord, and God saw Hezekiah’s tears in verse 5 and responded accordingly.
Do you need a reset in your life? Pray and cry to the Lord—the Lord can reset a bad, hurtful marriage, reset a wayward life, reset wasted years, reset sickness to wholeness, and much more. In Jeremiah 32:27, God asks, "Is anything too hard for me?" If He can turn the shadow on the sundial ten steps backward and give Hezekiah 15 more years, He certainly can do the same for you.
Hezekiah submitted to God's values and accorded the control of his destiny to God because he recognized God's faithfulness to His word and covenant. Don’t hesitate to take your matters to the Lord in prayer when they seem out of control. He can reset the issues. Push the reset button!
PRAYER: Lord, thank you for providing me with new chances and begenings. Reset my life and anything else that requires your touch of mercy in Jesus’ name, amen.
