365 DAYS!
Genesis 15:1 TLB
Afterwards Jehovah spoke to
Abram in a vision, and this is what he told him: "Don't be fearful, Abram,
for I will defend you. And I will give you great blessings."
“Do Not Fear”: God’s Daily
Encouragement.
The Bible is the most
accurate library in the universe. Every single detail is well-planned,
systematically, and strategically placed by the Lord. As 2 Timothy 3:16 says,
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in righteousness.” This means that whatever topic you’re searching
for—from the Old Testament to the New—you’ll find it in the Bible. Everything
is covered.
The Bible is inexhaustible!
You can study any topic, theme, story, place, or person and be occupied for a
lifetime. Yet, there is a phrase God has woven throughout the entire Bible to
give us daily encouragement, if we choose to receive it: “Do not fear,” “fear
not,” or “do not be afraid.”
There are 365 days in a
calendar year. While you could study any subject and not go beyond a few
months, the Lord, in His wisdom, provided daily encouragement through His
Word—if we search for it. He has given us words to help us stand firm and not
give up.
Do not fear!
The devil creates all kinds
of situations to strike fear in our hearts, but we must remember that there’s
nothing to fear but fear itself. Fear is often just “false evidence appearing
real”—it can work against us if we take our eyes off the Lord.
God knows the thoughts and
situations that trouble us as stated in Psalm 94:11 and understands that some
of them can create fear. That’s why He went ahead and prepared nuggets in His
Word to lift us up and help us when we are afraid.
The first time God said “do
not fear” to mankind was in our text. This was right after Abram had returned
from defeating the kings in chapter 14 and had great spoil. Why would the Lord
tell him not to fear? Perhaps God knew something was coming that would scare
Abram. As always, the Lord steps in to encourage and strengthen us before we
even reach our crossroads.
This is the earliest
recorded instance where God directly tells someone not to be afraid. It marks
the beginning of a recurring message throughout the Bible, where God reassures
His people in times of uncertainty and fear.
Every day, we wake up to
things that can cause us to fear or to doubt the Lord. But in His great mercy,
God gave us this encouraging phrase for our daily strength, making it one of
the most repeated phrases in the entire Bible.
What is that fear that is
crippling you to the point of wanting to give up? The Lord is saying to you:
“Do not fear.”
Sadly, many believers either
don’t know what this phrase means, or they struggle to believe it—especially
when facing situations that seem too big, sometimes even bigger than the Lord.
But be encouraged: the Lord walks with us and stands beside us in all the
storms of life. As declared in Isaiah 41:10:
“So do not fear, for I am
with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help
you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
If we have a relationship
with the Lord, we can be assured of His continual presence, His help, and His
sustaining power in any fearful situation.
- Do not fear what
anyone—man, spirit, or circumstance—can do to you according to Psalm 118:6),
because the Lord is by your side.
- Do not fear any attack or
accusing tongue; they are already condemned declares Isaiah 54:17.
- Remember, those who dwell
in the secret place of the Most High as seen in Psalm 91:1 have nothing to
fear, as Deuteronomy 31:6 promises: “The Lord your God goes with you; He will
never leave you nor forsake you.”
Fear not!
PRAYER: Lord, thank You for
the assurance that You are with me always and there is nothing to be afraid of,
in Jesus’ name. Amen.
