DO YOU KNOW GOD? !
Daniel 11:32 AMPC
And such as violate the
covenant he shall pervert and seduce with flatteries, but the people who know
their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits
[for God].
After our “Dwell” conference
last weekend, and because of the recurring point that we must truly know God, I
felt led to rewrite and share this reflection. Let me ask you a particularly
important and life-changing question:
Do you know God?
Do you know your God?
Many people do not see God
in all His glorious sovereignty simply because they do not know Him. Most
people call on a God with whom they have no real relationship or intimate
knowledge. Many enjoy God’s blessings-as seen in Ezekiel 20:44-even without knowing
Him, because God Himself is fulfilling His word says Hosea 2:20. To know God is
to completely believe and accept His word as the truth, which is the very
foundation of who God is.
Do you know the word, or do
you believe the word? Some people know the word but don’t truly believe it,
while others may not know as much, but they believe everything they read in the
Scriptures.
To know your God, you must
invest your time, heart, senses, and will in pursuing His word, as 2 Timothy
2:15 encourages. Essentially, you must dwell in God, because it is in dwelling
in Him that we come to truly know Him.
God is the God of absolute
truth. As the sovereign Creator of all things, God established truth and
righteousness, which are fully revealed in His creation and especially in His
Word according to Psalm 19.
The person who knows their
God is not timid or fearful. They do not complain or moan when things don’t go
their way. Their security is not in themselves, but in the knowledge of their
worth and value in the eyes of God as seen in Psalm 46:5.
Do you know your God?
To be strong and do the
great exploits God promised in Scripture, we need to intimately engage the Lord
at every level-to get to know the Lord’s heartbeat.
Many people today believe
they know God-the Savior, the King of kings-but sadly, many only know about
God: facts about Him, not the details and person of God Himself. There is a
difference.
So, let’s address this
question once again:
Do you know God, or do you
just know about God?
Psalm 18:2-3 gives us a
glimpse of who God is. Do you see God as your Rock, Fortress, Saviour,
Protector, Shield, Strength, and Stronghold?
Is the Lord worthy of your
praise? Absolutely! He made you-one valued and worth the blood of the Lamb and
His eternal love.
Would you not imprint the
Lord and His word on your heart, expressing it in your life just as He has your
name imprinted on His hands as declared Isaiah 49:16? God, in His mercy and
love, has you imprinted on His hand-a show and tell the enemy that He has no
intention of forgetting or letting you go. How about you? What is your show and
tell the world that you love God and have no plans of ignoring or forgetting
Him?
Do you know God enough to
call Him Father, as in Romans 8:15?
Enough to call Him the
righteous Judge according to Psalm 7:11? Or a friend, as in 1 Samuel 12:22?
Whatever you think about
God, be sure you know the full extent of His love and sacrifice for you-so you
can truly know Him as described in John 3:16. You spend time with the ones you
love and can talk about them all the time because you know them intimately.
Apply that principle to knowing the Lord-not just knowing about Him, but having
a deep, experiential knowledge of who your Father, God, and Friend is.
The power to do great
exploits is in knowing your God, as evidenced by Daniel and his friends. When
you know God, you will be strong and do exploits.
Do you know your God?
PRAYER: Father, thank You
for being everything to me. Help me to abide in You and grow in the knowledge
of You as I continue to know You as my Saviour, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
