FINAL DESTINATION!

1 John 2:24-26 AMPC

As for you, keep in your hearts what you have heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the first dwells and remains in you, then you will dwell in the Son and in the Father [always]. [25] And this is what He Himself has promised us-the life, the eternal [life]. [26] I write this to you with reference to those who would deceive you [seduce and lead you astray].

 

I saw a movie billboard with what I call “demonic, evil colour and font” embossed with large letters in red and a skull proclaiming the must-see movie “Final Destination.” Immediately, I thought of where that destination is for those who do not know the Lord and have not received the gift of salvation.

Hebrews 9:27 says man is appointed to die once. Appointed... to die once. Every person has only one life before facing eternal judgment and the “final destination.” Which would yours be?

Yes! There is a final destination, and the choice is yours! Where would you spend eternity? The final destination is not based on merit, clout, wealth, popularity, or looks. Ask the rich man in Luke 16:19-31. I am certain he thought he had a free pass to the good afterlife, but not according to God’s standard and measure.

The choice is yours. Which would it be? Heaven or hell?

We make all kinds of decisions daily, picking and choosing what, where, how, if, and when of our activities. Some of these choices we can leave to others to make for us if they are not life-changing or threatening, but the impactful decisions we certainly make ourselves and don’t trust others to make for us. Why then do we leave the choice of our final destination to a third party?

John 3:35-36 offers us the assurance needed for the final destination, saying, “The Father loves the Son and has given Him everything. [36] Everyone who has faith in the Son has eternal life. But no one who rejects Him will ever share in that life, and God will be angry with them forever.” C. S. Lewis said, ‘I would pay any price to be able to say truthfully ‘All will be saved.’ But my reason retorts, ‘Without their will, or with it?’ If I say ‘Without their will’ I at once perceive a contradiction; how can the supreme voluntary act of self-surrender be involuntary? If I say, ‘With their will,’ my reason replies, ‘How if they will not give in?’ Ultimately, ‘there are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, in the end, ‘Thy will be done.’ All that are in Hell, choose it. Without that self-choice there could be no Hell. No soul that seriously and constantly desires joy will ever miss it. Those who seek find. To those who knock it is opened.’”

Nobody can work their way into heaven, as many seem to think. That is an outright lie of the enemy. Salvation, God’s gift according to Ephesians 2:8-9, worked out individually in fear and trembling according to Philippians 2:12, is the only way to the right “final” destination and not whatever, besides salvation, that you think you have to do to “manipulate” the Lord into allowing you to “sneak” into heaven for eternity.

There’s no sneaking into hell or heaven. You go where you choose, as stated in Proverbs 15:24, “The path of the wise leads upward to life, that he may avoid [the gloom] in the depths of Sheol (Hades, the place of the dead).” This tells us clearly that the one who is saved by grace and wise in the path of righteousness goes upward toward life, essentially heaven, so that he may avoid the pathway that leads downward to death and destruction, hell.

Have you decided where your final destination would be? Upwards or downwards?
