INHERITANCE IN CHRIST!

Ephesians 1:11 NASB

In Him we also have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things in accordance with the plan of His will,

 

An inheritance is something left behind by one generation to be received by the next. Inheritance plays a significant role in the Scriptures; it is used as a metaphor to convey theological, or spiritual, truths.

Our inheritance in a word is heaven. It is the total of all that God has promised us in salvation through Christ Jesus. Words related to inheritance in Scripture are portion and heritage.

Believers have obtained an inheritance as an assurance of eternal life. Our inheritance is predestined in Christ by God who works all things according to the counsel of his will. When we accept Christ as saviour and Lord, we receive an inheritance from God.

Proverbs 13:22 says good parents leave an inheritance for their children and grandchildren. This may be more of monetary or material inheritance but maybe a name and a character as Proverbs 22:1 purports are better than wealth.

God didn’t just give us new names in Christ and a visa to heaven through salvation, He gave us all the physical, material, financial and spiritual blessings needed to have an abundant life which begins here on earth as John 10:10 states.

So many people have a physical, tangible inheritance from their families but a lot more have memories, happy, inspiring and motivating memories that are the legacy of their parents.

You must be a recognised and an acceptable member of a family for you to be entitled to an inheritance from that family. As a member of Christ’s family, we are assured that our portion in him will not only be available anytime and every time but we all have an equal share in the inheritance as co or joint heirs with Christ.

That means we have access to all that Christ is as co-heirs according to Romans 8:17, potentially, everything Christ has, we have, as he says in John 14:12, whatever he did, we’re expected to do better. So when we pray, God hears us because He hears Christ according to Hebrew 4:14-16.

Inheritances are only made possible because somebody died and left something valuable, mostly to be inherited. And in our case, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, died for us. He didn’t die for no reason, either! He died for you and me to have total and complete freedom, forgiveness, holiness, blessing, healing, and prosperity and eventually, eternal life with the Father in heaven.

Our inheritance in Christ is imperishable. The inheritance we have in Christ is not subject to corruption or decay, government or politics, inflation or recession. In contrast, everything on earth goes through the process of decay, rust, or falling apart.

Some nations like the UK even have an inheritance tax, making whatever parents bequest their children somewhat valueless or not worth inheriting.

The law of entropy affects houses, cars, and even our bodies, that goes through degrees of disorder. Our treasure in heaven and inheritance on earth is unaffected by entropy, they are not subject to these or moth, and thieve according to Matthew 6:19–20.

Have you got the revelation that God has promised you something? Do you see these stored-up blessings in your spirit man, enough to reach out for them? As Acts 20:32 says that the inheritance is waiting for you. Nothing is too small or big to be inherited from the Lord, even a nation can be your inheritance according to Psalm 2:8.

David said in Psalm 16:5-6 that God is his chosen portion and inheritance as he recalls the allocation of the Promised Land into tribal and family plots.

Your inheritance in Christ is reserved, available and waiting for you because you are God’s child and adopted into His family.
