OUT OF DARKNESS INTO THE LIGHT!

Isaiah 9:2 GNT

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. They lived in a land of shadows, but now light is shining on them.

       

Darkness is the state of being devoid of light, nightfall, a secret, and closedness. Darkness can represent physical, spiritual, and mental blindness, evil, a place of punishment, and a spiritual term for cast-offs.

So many people are stumbling about in the dark—some out of confusion, some lost, for others, its indecision, while many choose to deliberately remain in the dark, closed off to the love and light of God.

The Lord knows the importance of light, which is why the Bible opens with God saying in Genesis 1:3-5, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. But in between God setting the light in its place, humanity decided to step right back into darkness by sinning against the God of light.

Our text refers to the people who walk in darkness—those walking in lies and deception, immorality, unbelief, and doubt, and whoever refuses to acknowledge and accept Christ as Lord and Savior, including those who reject the Holy Spirit. These are the people who still refuse the Lord’s invitation and appeal in Isaiah 2:5, which says, “O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the LORD.”

God is beckoning us to come out of darkness and step into His marvellous light, but as usual, we keep resisting and refusing the Lord’s appeal. Are you willing to accept God’s invitation to step out of darkness into His light?

The reason the Lord wants us to step out of darkness and into the light can be found in Isaiah 60:1-3, telling us to arise and get out of whatever afflictions are holding us back and down. Rise up and out of mourning and captivity. Let the blind receive sight to see physically and spiritually. Let every closed door be opened. Let every secret, hidden treasure be unveiled and revealed.

Stepping out of darkness gives us the grace to shine and be enlightened because of the light of God in us—the light that impacts others. The light of God establishes the glory of the Lord on us and makes a clear distinction between those who belong to the Father.

Nobody deliberately sits in the dark when the pleasure of light is a flicker away. When there is darkness, we do all we can to get light in there as quickly as we can. The light of God gives revelation and insight to the simple, according to Psalm 119:130, and we need simplicity in every darkened area because some of us have been in the dark for too long, and the Lord is saying it’s time to step out of it and into the light.

Darkness is a chain for many, holding them down and stopping them from moving actively, progressively, and boldly as soldiers of Christ. It is a hiding place that never allows our gifts and graces to shine through and be used for kingdom business and are excuses to not follow the Lord wholeheartedly. Darkness is a crutch to many who use it to limp between desires while claiming disability, but it’s time to step out and step into the light!

The Lord has turned on His searchlight, as stated in Psalm 18:28, for us to quit stumbling and groping in the dark! God has already delivered us, according to Colossians 1:13. We’re not stepping out of darkness into nothing, but into a well-lit path, on the word of God for direction, according to Psalm 119:105.

PRAYER: Father of light, fill me with the light of life to overshadow every dark area in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
