THE PROMISE KEEPER!
Romans 4:21 TLB
He was completely
sure that God was well able to do anything he promised.
God is the promise keeper;
He delivers on all His word always. He never goes back on His promises neither
does He fail nor change His mind according to Numbers 23:19 but He still
requires our participation in our successes, prosperity and development. With
over 3000 promises God made in the Bible, He instructed us to ask for whatever
we need and promises to answer us when we do ask according to Luke 11:9.
God our Father wants
to prosper, bless, keep us healthy, and safe, provide for us and do much more
than our natural earthly fathers could ever do for us. Deuteronomy 28 tells us
all about what God wants and doesn’t want for us, but the list is inexhaustive.
David was a man who
knew how to not only praise God but also knew how to expect and receive from
Him.
When he wrote psalms
37, he was probably coming out of a stressful, difficult, and challenging
period, but instead of focusing on the problems as a lot us do, he focused on
his maker. Colossians 3:2 says to set our eyes on the things above which is
where our salvation and help is.
As earlier mentioned,
the bible is packed full of God’s promises to us individually and generally and
Psalm 37 alone holds twenty-five of these promises from God to us:
1. we will dwell in
the land in verses 3 and 29
2. we will be fed in
verse 3
3. He will give us
the desires of our hearts in verse 4
4. He will bring
things to pass in verse 5.
5. He will bring
righteousness to light in verse 6
6. He will bring
judgement
7. Evildoers will be
cut off in verses 9,20,22,34,38
8. He will give us
the earth as an inheritance in verses 9,11,22,29,34
9. He will give us
an abundance of peace in verse 11
10. He will uphold
us in verses 17, 24
11. He will grant us
an eternal inheritance
12. We will not be
ashamed of evil things
13. He will satisfy
us in times of famine in verse 29
14. You will not be
cast down or fall
15. He will not
forsake us in verse 28
16. He will preserve
us forever
17. He will cut off
the seed of the wicked
18. He will not
allow our steps to slide in verse 31
19. He will not give
us over to the wicked in verse 33
20. He will not
condemn us
21. We will have
peace in verse 37
22. He will give us
salvation in verses 39-40
23. We will have the
strength for every battle
24. He is our helper
in verse 40
25. We’ll be
delivered from the wicked.
God promised all of
these from only one chapter of a book of the Bible, and much more from Genesis
to Revelations, what other promises have you picked and held onto? Has God ever
failed you? Has He ever broken a promise to you?
Numbers 23:19 tells
us that God does not LIE about ANYTHING.
It is very telling
that Joshua and the children of Israel were able to confidently boast of God’s
ability to keep His promises in Joshua 21:45 saying, “Every good thing the Lord
had promised them came true”. These people didn’t have the Holy Spirit, how
much more you, a child of the new covenant in Christ. God will keep that
promise, hold on to it, for they are sure according to 2 Corinthians 1:20.
The promise keeper
keeps His promises.
PRAYER: Thank you,
Lord for your promises, I know you never lie or fail. Help me to trustingly
hold on to your promises to me through Christ Jesus. Amen.
