DESPERATE VOICES!

Luke 18:36-43 AMPC

And hearing a crowd going by, he asked what it meant. [37] They told him, Jesus of Nazareth is passing by. [38] And he shouted, saying, Jesus, Son of David, take pity and have mercy on me! [39] But those who were in front reproved him, telling him to keep quiet; yet he screamed and shrieked so much the more, Son of David, take pity and have mercy on me! [40] Then Jesus stood still and ordered that he be led to Him; and when he came near, Jesus asked him, [41] What do you want Me to do for you? He said, Lord, let me receive my sight! [42] And Jesus said to him, Receive your sight! Your faith ( your trust and confidence that spring from your faith in God) has healed you. [43] And instantly he received his sight and began to follow Jesus, recognizing, praising, and honoring God; and all the people, when they saw it, praised God.

Desperation! We can fill another world with the state of desperation that exists in our world today. Unfortunately, our desperate voices only cry out for the wrong things. Desperation is when one has a great need or desire for something or someone, a desire that is not easily attainable.

We’ve all known what it is to be desperate at some point in life and desperate times they say call for desperate measures that we are more than ready to do anything to get our desires fulfilled.

Biblical desperation is a deep, urgent longing for God that drives a person to seek Him with their whole heart, often in times of great need, brokenness, or hunger for more of His presence. It’s not about panic or fear—it’s about earnest pursuit and total dependence on God according to Psalm 42:1.

Desperation makes one more willing to do anything to overcome their desperate state. You shorn dignity and are truly undignified in wanting to reach the Lord. Unfortunately for some, the path they take is not always the right one or God’s way but because of the circumstances, we head that way anyway, sadly, it may lead to destruction according to  Proverbs 14:12.

What are you desperate for?

We all have certain areas of our lives where we are desperate for something: spiritual desperation, physical, mental, financial, emotional, and many more. Sarah was so desperate for a child that rather than wait for God’s promise and timing, she chose to help matters along in Genesis 16:2. Instead of suffering in a state of desperation outside the city gate, ( which Christ already did for us in Hebrews 13:12), let your desperation push you to call and crying out for Jesus's mercy and help.

What is troubling you?  Why and what are you desperate for?

What desperate state are you in right now?

God knows you'll get to a desperate place one day which is why He said to you to "come", in Matthew 10:28-30. How about using your desperate voice?

When we get to that desperate place, we begin to look for solutions outside of God, some, because they’ve waited too long, others, because they don’t believe God will answer them, while others don’t want to disturb God with they perceive as their little issues, so they decide to try to help themselves.

In some cases, people turned to the Lord whom they don’t even know in their desperate state, and God answered. Genesis 24:12 recount Eliezer’s desperate prayer on his assignment to look for a wife for Isaac, his master’s son and we’re told God answered his prayer.

Exodus 2:23 tells us that the desperate cry of the children of Israel because of their hard labour went up to the Lord and He heard them.

Desperation is persistent seeking and desperate people don’t give up easily like the bleeding woman who pushed through the crowd just to touch Jesus’ garment in Mark 5:25–34.

Blind Bartimaeus was desperate for help, he had waited for help for a long time, but nothing seemed to be happening and when he heard Jesus coming, he didn't wait for the Master, his desperate voice reached Jesus. You too can reach Jesus where He is. The closer Christ got to Bartimaeus, the louder he cried "Jesus, son of David have mercy on me" until the Master stopped to deliver him, he didn’t stop.

How about you? Are you desperate enough to cry out to the Master? Desperation keeps knocking until the door opens.

Learn to cry out to God in desperation, don’t allow your voice to be drowned by fear, anxiety, sin, pain, and ignorance.

Let your voice of prayer, praise and faith rise in desperation until you can see the Master reaching for you. Desperation is a posture of total surrender—“God, I can’t do this without you and the Lord is desperately waiting to hear you call out to Him too. Come, cry out to Him if you’re desperate.

PRAYER: Lord of mercy and grace, I cry out to you, show me your face oh, Lord and lift me of my desperate state in Jesus’ name, amen.
