GOD'S TEST!
Deuteronomy 8:2 TLB
Do you remember how the Lord
led you through the wilderness for all those forty years, humbling you and
testing you to find out how you would respond, and whether or not you would
really obey him?
TESTS! Test, we all have, at
least I do, a fear, a resistance and possibly a hatred for it. A test is a
method or tool used to measure, evaluate, or assess knowledge, skills,
abilities, or performance. Tests can take many forms, including written
questions, practical activities, or oral examinations. They are commonly used
in schools, workplaces, laboratories, and many other settings to determine how
well someone understands a subject, can perform a task, or meets certain
standards.
But why do we need test and
to be tested?
Test are used to check
learning or progress. To identify strengths and weaknesses. To qualify for
advancement or certification and to diagnose problems or conditions.
These as we see are all
physical or natural things. If the world tests us and expects us to pass this
test to ascertain our usability, qualification and credibility, then it’s
expected that the Lord of all lords would want us to be tested, not for Himself
but for us to know who we are, what we are made of, and what’s inside of us.
Students are tested
regularly for understanding of the material they are learning. Car buyers
normally take “test drives” to determine the quality of the vehicle they want
to purchase. Companies invest vast sums in testing their new products to
guarantee they will perform as advertised. Our character and spiritual
commitments are tested by the fires of conflict, hardship, temptation, and
suffering. The Bible distinguishes between temptation, which aims to lead us
into sin, and testing, which God uses to purify us and move us toward maturity
and growth.
Throughout Scripture, God
allows or orchestrates tests in the lives of individuals to prove, refine, and
strengthen their faith and character. For example, God tested Abraham by asking
him to sacrifice his son Isaac, to see his obedience and trust in Genesis
22:1-2.
God’s test is unlike men. it’s
not a written, mental or cognitive test. It’s mostly spiritual, character and
behavioural. God’s test it not to pass any exams for qualifications but to
prepare us to understand who we are in Christ, what we have in us and how
essential we are to the kingdom.
Testing produces spiritual growth.
The New Testament teaches that the testing of faith leads to perseverance,
maturity, and completeness. James 1:2-4 says we should, "Count it all
joy...when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of
your faith produces steadfastness". While 1 Peter 1:6-7 compares the
process of testing to refining gold, showing that tests reveal and purify
genuine faith in us.
God tests the hearts and motives
of man. He examines the hearts and minds of people to know their true
intentions as seen in Jeremiah 17:10, and Proverbs 17:3.
All Believers are called to test
themselves and their spiritual influences as the Bible encourages us to examine
ourselves to see if we are truly in the faith according to 2 Corinthians 13:5.
Christians are also told to "test the spirits" to discern whether
teachings and influences are truly from God in 1 John 4:1.
In 1 Corinthians 10:13, the Paul encourages those who are tested of God and those who are tempted. He
teaches that the testings, trials, and temptations which we face, are common to
everyone. But God is faithful, who will not allow us to be tested beyond what
we are able. He does not promise to deliver us from temptation or testing, but
He does promise to limit its intensity.
Moses yet again urged the
people to obey God, using the loving, preserving care of God as a motive. The
Lord had allowed trials to come into their lives to humble them, prove them,
and test their obedience, just as He does with all Christians. God knew what
was in the hearts of the people and still does.
What God’s test are you
facing right now? Don’t worry, the Lord is with you in it. Enduring and passing
God’s test brings reward for those who remain steadfast under trial according
to James 1:12 says.
PRAYER: Lord, grant me
strength, focus, and peace as I go through every test. Let Your Holy Spirit
guide me, and may I do my best for Your glory. Remind me that no matter the
outcome, You have good plans for my life in Jesus’s name, amen.
