HUMAN MANNEQUINS!
Genesis 1:26-27 NASB
Then God said, “Let Us make
mankind in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the
fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the livestock and over
all the earth, and over every crawling thing that crawls on the earth.” [27] So
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and
female He created them.
We live in a society where
words like modify, upgrade, transition, and change are now widely used to
describe humanity. We are so captivated and consumed by outward appearances
that we are willing to go to any length to achieve “perfection.” But true perfection
is impossible!
A “human mannequin” is a
lifeless, unmoving figure that only appears human. In scripture and Christian
teaching, mannequins often represent spiritual emptiness, lack of authenticity,
and the dangers of outward religion without inward transformation. They look
real on the outside but are empty and lifeless within. This mirrors what the
Bible says about people who appear religious or righteous outwardly but lack
true spiritual life. Jesus described the Pharisees as “whitewashed
tombs”—beautiful on the outside but full of dead bones within (Matthew 23:27).
In the same way, a mannequin can symbolize someone who goes through religious
motions but is spiritually dead, lacking the indwelling life of Christ.
In 1 Samuel 16:7, God says
He does not see as man sees; He looks at the heart, the intentions, and the
motives—not the physical appearance or packaging as we do. A mannequin is
placed, dressed, and manipulated to appear as needed, but it has no heart. God
didn’t make mannequins; He made man in His image and likeness. Yet, society
today wants us to believe we can change into whatever we desire.
Why? Because the enemy wants
human mannequins—people he can move and manipulate at will, changing their
appearance and convincing them that’s what they need. His goal is to create
doubt about the validity of God’s existence.
When did humanity lose the
sense, identity, sensitivity, and wisdom God gave us? When did we become so
entitled that we believe we can choose to be whatever we wish, outside of God’s
design—even when it’s spiritually and physically impossible? When did we lose
our grip on reality and start manufacturing our own versions of “human beings”?
The answer is simple: we started subscribing to the lies of Satan.
Even Christians have joined
the world in pursuing store-bought perfection. As 1 Peter 3:3-4 warns, outward
packaging can give a false impression of what we’re truly like inside. Instead,
we should be pursuing internal transformation, which is at the heart of God’s
desire for every society and nation.
God formed man from the dust
of the ground, not from recycled materials. Isaiah 64:8 reminds us that God,
the potter, fashioned clay into human shape. God owns the patent to humanity,
and no one has the right to tamper with His creation. Genesis 2:7 tells us that
God breathed life into the man He formed—it is His breath that makes the
difference.
If, as John 10:35 says, the
scriptures cannot be broken, and Numbers 23:19 declares that God cannot lie,
then we must believe that every part of the human body, male and female, was
formed specifically and intentionally. Psalm 139:13 (MSG) beautifully expresses
this:
“Oh yes, you shaped me first
inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High
God—you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in
adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my
body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from
nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception
to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you.”
If God wanted robots or
mannequins, He could have made them easily. Instead, He made man in His own
image and likeness.
There are too many man-made
“human mannequins” in the world today, but no matter how hard they try, they
cannot replace or surpass God-made humanity. We are fearfully and wonderfully
made and do not need upgrading or modification because we are made in God’s
image.
PRAYER: Open our eyes, O
Lord, to see where we have become pawns—mannequins, vacant and empty of Your
life. Touch me once again and breathe Your life into me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
