Mercy na one big part of di gospel and God character, and e dey important make all believers dey show am. God mercy mean say Him dey show compassion, patience, and forgiveness—even when we no deserve am. Bible talk am many times say God na “merciful and gracious, slow to vex, and full of steady love,” like Psalm 103:8 talk.

Di Hebrew word chesed (dem dey pronounce am kheh-sed)—wey appear 149 times for Bible—carry deep meaning of God kindness, mercy, and covenant love. For Hebrew and Greek, mercy dey show through words like kindness, lovingkindness, goodness, grace, favour, pity, compassion, and steady love. Many things dey rise every day to worry us, but God dey give us Him mercy as countermeasure to help us overcome. Him compassion no dey fail. In fact, e dey renew every single day.

Every day get e own wahala wey fit weigh person down. But God dey give us Him mercy wey no dey fail. The sweet part be say, Him mercy dey renew every day. That one mean say no matter wetin happen yesterday, today come with fresh grace. The reason why God mercy no dey fail na because Him dey faithful.

1 Peter 1:3 talk say, “Make we praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Na because of Him big mercy wey make us born again, as God raise Jesus Christ from death. Now we dey live with great hope.”

Mercy pass just to escape punishment wey we suppose collect because of our sin. E mean say we dey receive better gift wey we no deserve—salvation, the biggest gift. The sacrifice wey Jesus do for us, even when we reject am, na the strongest kind of mercy. Now, we fit get eternal life if we just accept am.

Mercy na compassion wey dem pour give people wey need help. But God mercy, wey Him want make we copy, dey go even further. God mercy na favour wey we no deserve. Even when we no deserve am, God still dey give us. Our sin and disobedience suppose bring punishment, but instead, God give us forgiveness and eternal life. If God fit show us mercy even when we sin, how much more we suppose show mercy to people wey offend us?

God dey show Him mercy by how Him dey always show up to save and deliver us, even when we no expect, no deserve, or no ask for am—like Exodus 19:4 talk. As Him do for dem that time, na so Him mercy go still do for us today.

Make you think about your phone plan—whether na pay-as-you-go or monthly. Your network no go give you extra data free, dem no go carry over unused data, and dem no go let you use am if you never pay. But God mercy no be like that. If you no use am today, e go end with the day. But no worry—God go give you fresh mercy again tomorrow.

God dey show us mercy to guide us for correct road and to stop our enemies from win us. We no fit ever deserve to enter God presence or receive Him help; but because of Him love and mercy, He still dey bless us. Like Psalm 5:7–8 talk: 

“Because of your unfailing love, I fit enter your house; I go worship for your Temple with deep respect. Lead me for correct road, O Lord, make my enemies no win me. Show me your way make I follow.”

Mercy dey win! Mercy dey triumph over judgment wey we suppose collect, like James 2:13 talk. This one show say mercy dey very important, and e encourage us to show compassion and forgiveness to others.

Micah 7:18 ask one serious question: Who be god like our God wey dey forgive sin? Nobody!

PRAYER: Merciful God, thank You for your loving-kindness wey dey flood my life with mercy every day, in Jesus name. Amen.
