GOD IS FOR ME!

Romans 8:31 AMPC

What then shall we say to [all] this? If God is for us, who [can be] against us? [Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?]

Things and people are always against us, aren’t they? Or at least it may seem so—sometimes when things aren’t going our way and it feels like we’re on our own—but if God is for us, nothing on earth can come against us. If God is and be for you, who or what on earth can be against you?

Everything in life will rise and come after us, defeating those of us not hiding within the Lord, while getting defeated on behalf of the dwellers. Has any of us got the strength necessary to best the enemy, seen and unseen?

As Ephesians 6:12 says, we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood but against things unseen, supernatural powers, evil and wickedness in high places that we would never defeat without God, who is for us. And 1 John 4:4 concludes that the one who is in us, the Holy Spirit, is greater than everything in the world.

So many things in life will come against us—friends, families, organisations, schools, teachers, parents, spouses, and more—but remember the only one who’ll never come against you is the Lord; that’s why He’s the only one who is for us.

Our shortcomings can even be used against us, including the foolish mistakes made years ago.

Would we like to be measured with these yardsticks? Don’t think so! When the younger Adam Clarke’s father, one of England's most prolific eighteenth-century preachers, told Adam's teacher that he didn't think his son would do well in school, the teacher replied, “He looks very bright to me.” Adam heard those words—and they changed his life by letting him out of the box his father put him in. Clarke lived to be 72, became a famous Methodist minister, and gave the world one of its greatest Bible commentaries.

If God is for you, who can be against you? God will always be bigger, better, mightier, stronger, and more powerful than anyone and anything on the earth or in heaven that may come against you.

People will judge and measure you based on their perception and expectations, not necessarily because of what you’ve done, said, or look like, but just because they can.

Our text, one of the most encouraging Bible verses we see in the scriptures, says, “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

In his family's eyes, David would never be more than a shepherd, in 1 Samuel 16:11-12, but to God, he was Israel's next king. It's amazing how people categorise us the moment we're born.

Somebody says you “look exactly like so-and-so” or convinces you that you're “just an average student,” or a “plain Jane,” and a victim or loser, and before we know it, we start believing their assessments and opinions.

Paul explains that our current sufferings pale in comparison to the coming glory. The Spirit of God will be with us to help us through anything that comes against us, and God works all things for good says Romans 8:29-30. If God is for us, who can be against us?

Who can be against us? No one!

Sure, we can be persecuted and hurt, but eternally we will live and bask in the glory of Christ forever. Though we may suffer, we will not be destroyed. No matter how bad things seem, we must remember that “God is for us.”

So, get rid of labels and life-limiting thoughts, and trust God. With God in our corner, we can rise to the top! God is the only one who can destroy us eternally according to Matthew 10:28, so fear and praise His name that He is for and not against us. (Extract from "The Spirit of Prayer")

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

Have you ever felt like everything and everyone was against you? How did remembering that God is for you change your perspective or response?

Do you struggle with believing that God is truly on your side? What scriptures or experiences can you hold onto to strengthen your faith?

Can you recall a time when God defended or stood by you in a difficult situation? What did that teach you about His faithfulness?

What fears or insecurities do you need to surrender to God today, trusting that He is for you?

PRAYER: Thank you, Father, for always being there for me. I am assured that even if everyone leaves and comes against me, you won’t ever give up on me. Thank you, Lord, in Jesus’ name, amen.
