GOD KNOWS WHAT TO DO!
John 6:1-6 (MOFF)
1 After this Jesus
went off to the opposite side of the Sea of Galilee (the lake of
Tiberias),
2 followed by a large
crowd on account of the signs which they had seen him perform on sick
folk.
3 Now Jesus went up
the hill and sat down there with his disciples.
4 (The Passover, the
Jewish festival, was at hand.)
5 On looking up and
seeing a large crowd approaching, he said to Philip, "Where are we to buy
bread for all these people to eat?"
6 (He said this to
test Philip, for he knew what he was going to do himself.)
Get it! If you get nothing else, get this: the Lord is never
confused as to what to do. He always knows what to do, when, how, and why to do
anything He does or what we ask Him to do for us. The God of the heavens and
the earth is never confused!
If Isaiah 46:10 says God knows the end from the beginning, it
means He always knows what He will do in every situation before they occur and
within its timeframe. And Psalm 139:16 says He’s recorded and ordained all our
days yet to be lived.
Most of us are reluctant to take matters to the Lord because
we sometimes think He’s unable to help us or wouldn’t know what to do. That,
unfortunately, is the voice of the enemy, trying to stop us from receiving from
the Lord what has already been planned and prepared for us.
Jesus already knew what was needed in this situation and
precisely what to do, but He said this to test Philip’s faith, to see whether
he and the other apostles had paid proper attention to the miracles which they
had already seen Him do, and then to draw their attention more particularly to
the one He was now about to perform.
Proving, testing, evaluation is needed in the selection of
leaders; Jesus was no different. As is the Lord, we must be proved, tested and
evaluated if we are working in the Lord’s vineyard, to be sure that we’re
responsible and mature enough for the office we occupy and operate in.
1 Timothy 3:10 says every believer must be put on probation;
after that, if they are above reproach, they can serve as deacons or
leaders.
This means that no man should be put into an office in the
Church or ministry until he has given full proof of his sincerity and
steadiness, by having been for a considerable time a consistent private member
of the Church.
God knows and wants us to know what we give priority to—for
the apostles, was their attention given to the loaves and fish or to the
greatness of the God they now follow?
Through these, they would learn directly from the Master that
God is great enough to meet the need of anyone, either a large or small group;
this would most likely have given them confidence in following Him and trusting
in His ability to meet their needs.
The Lord may set us a seemingly impossible task to see if we
will act out in faith or fear; a training ground, as James 1:2-4 puts it, that
will push us to trust in Him more and expect that He can do beyond what we can
see and do.
The Lord can accomplish much more than we can in ourselves,
but occasionally, He will ask us what we think or want Him to do, just to get
us to participate in the process and the miracles.
Are you facing an issue right now and are wondering why the
Lord is not moving on your case? Look inward to hear what He’s saying to you
and asking you to do.
He knows exactly what to do regarding that marriage, child,
sickness, and whatever else you’re going through. He knows and will do it in
His time, beautifully according to Ecclesiastes 3:11, without any help from
you.
He knows what He’ll do regarding that matter you entrusted to
Him; He will not let you down. He may ask you questions, but remain confident
that He’s not confused. The Lord always knows what to do, what He’s doing, and
how to do it. Trust Him! He knows what to do in your case.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
· Have you ever faced a situation where
you didn’t know what to do, but later saw that God already had a plan? What did
you learn from that experience?
· Do you truly believe that God is
never confused or uncertain about your situation? What helps or hinders your
trust in His wisdom?
· How can you remind yourself daily
that God already knows what to do—even when you don’t? What scriptures or
habits can help strengthen your faith?
PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, that you know exactly what is right
for me and will do it when it’s your time to make it beautiful. Thank you, in
Jesus’ name, amen.
