GOD THE REWARDER!

Hebrews 11:6 (BBE)

And without faith it is not possible to be well-pleasing to Him, for it is necessary for anyone who comes to God to have the belief that God is, and that He is a rewarder of all those who make a serious search for Him.

God is a rewarder—He responds favourably and generously to those who seek Him in faith and serve Him faithfully. A reward can be anything given for service; it is to recompense someone for worthy acts or retribution for wrongdoing. It could be a reward given for any kind of labour and only those who persevere to the end can claim such rewards.

The greatest reward in life is found in Christ.

Isn’t it amazing that those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will go to heaven and be rewarded for things they’ve done for Christ on earth as well?

Our toil is in vain if there’s nothing to look forward to at the end of that toil, but when we work and walk with God, He gives His reward for our spent strength and our labour according to Isaiah 49:4.

God promises a coming reward for those who diligently seek Him. God’s reward includes strength, wisdom, favour, good breaks, promotion, healing, restoration, and more than we can think of. Our text gives us two requirements for getting rewards from God: a belief in God’s existence and the belief that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

We can never outrun the good things God has for us if we seek Him with our whole hearts. The interesting thing about God’s rewards is that they’re already in place before anyone ever needs to claim them.

Your reward has already been put in place and is waiting to be released at the right time of the Lord’s coming.

When we see a poster for a lost item with the promise of a monetary reward for anyone who finds the lost item, we can’t go to the door of the owner and say, “Hey, I’ve come for the reward for the lost item!” Their question will be, “Where is it?” And you’ll say, “I didn’t find it, but I spent hours looking and am going to keep looking.” You must meet the demand of the reward to claim it; so it is with the Lord’s reward. According to Isaiah 40:10, we must meet the demands of the reward—the ones He made free.

But the Lord says, “I’ll pay and reward you just for looking. I’ll bless you just for seeking me. I’ll reward you just for your efforts. I’ll show you favour for meditating on my promises.”

God’s reward is in seeking and making the effort according to Matthew 6:33.

Peter asked what they’d get for following Him in Matthew 19:27. Instead of rebuking him, Jesus assures him of the reward for every sacrifice.

There are rewards for everyone who has left something or someone to follow Jesus, declares Matthew 19:29.

It’s reassuring and joyful that God’s reward is not according to what we deserve but according to His unfailing love and faithfulness. Because of our sinful nature, punishment and death should be our reward according to Romans 6:23, but with God’s promise of rewards, we are sustained in our integrity during tests and trials.

Besides enjoying rich blessings of all kinds now, we eagerly look forward to even greater blessings in eternal glory, according to 1 Timothy 4:8. The rewards and crowns that we receive on meeting the Lord will be ours for all eternity. Though you may have earned them on earth, they are gifts of loving gratitude, shared by the One who made it possible to earn them in the first place. God the rewarder has the rewards for all your labour.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

- Do you truly believe that God desires to reward you? Why or why not?

- In what practical ways do you "diligently seek Him"? How could you seek God more intentionally?

- Are there areas in your life where you are not seeking God but pursuing other things for significance or security? What might change if you refocused on God as your true reward?

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for being a faithful rewarder to all who seek You and trust in Your goodness. I come before You with a heart full of gratitude, recognizing Your love and Your promises over my life. Help me to diligently seek Your presence every day, believing that You see, know, and care for every detail, through Christ our Lord, amen.
