HOLY SPIRIT

John 16:7-9 AMPC

However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. [8] And when He comes, He will convict and convince the world and bring demonstration to it about sin and about righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God) and about judgment: [9] About sin, because they do not believe in Me [trust in, rely on, and adhere to Me];

 

Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity-The Godhead. The Holy Spirit is another of the same kind, He is exactly as Jesus- He is not inferior or superior.

The Spirit of God is God in action within us, upon us, or around us. God’s Spirit is God at work, making things happen in the world. We cannot see the Spirit, but we can see the results of its power. The Spirit of God was present when the world was created. God sent his Spirit to do powerful things among his people, Israel. Later, God sent his Spirit when Jesus lived on earth, and the Spirit has been present with Christians ever since.

Christ's departure was necessary to the Comforter's coming. Sending the Holy Spirit was to be the fruit of Christ's death and the first instalment of our inheritance, Jesus’s going-away present to all who believe in Him. The Holy Spirit is God’s guarantee to us according to Ephesians 1:14.

Jesus’s bodily presence could only be in one place at a time, but His Spirit is everywhere, in all places, always (Omnipresent), says Matthew 18:20.

The power of convincing work is the Holy Spirit's; He can and does do it effectually. Conviction is the method the Holy Spirit takes to convince, convict and convert a soul to Christ. The Holy Spirit will convince the unbeliever of sin and convict the backsliding believer back to faith says John 15:26.

The Holy Spirit is the power of God and has appeared throughout the scripture as the Being through and by whom great works of power are made manifest in us and the world. He was first seen in the act of creation, through His power the world by God’s mouth was formed in Genesis 1:1–2 and Job 26:13.

Yet man has continued to think and treat the Holy Spirit less of His ability, hurting and insulting Him in how we treat and react to Him, sometimes unaware or unintentionally, when we are supposed to appreciate and honour His presence and power in our lives. The Holy Spirit’s work is that of a partner who transforms and helps us in every area of life, instead, we constantly demean Him by trying to take control of our lives, but the Holy Spirit is the advantage believers have over the natural things according to Luke 12:12.

The Holy Spirit is everything to and for us and helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words Romans 8:26.

The Holy Spirit is our constant Guide, not only showing us the way but to going with us to continue to aid and influence us. He leads us into truths that we would otherwise barely know, He teaches us all truth and keeps back nothing profitable from us.

All the gifts, benefits and graces of the believer: the preaching, gifts of tongues, and miracles are all under the influence of the Holy Spirit to glorify Christ. The Holy Spirit manifested in the lives of believers, convinces mankind, that Christ is the true and righteous teacher, and not an impostor.

The value of the Holy Spirit is that the unspiritual system of religion which many professes, and which has led them to reject Christ, is of the devil and not of God.

Because He has personal attributes like intelligence and volition, means He too would love for us to show Him love, gratitude and thanksgiving, we ought to cherish Him in the way we worship, praise and adore Him, listening more to Him than to man. We should allow Him to work in and through us to freely transform us.

The Holy Spirit is so many things to us, especially as is the important Spirit of truth mentioned in John 16:13, which we need in the days we now live in.

The Holy Spirit took the place of Jesus on earth to help us in every way, so, listen to Him, He will lead you to all truth.

PRAYER: Thank you, Father for the gift of your spirit, my secret weapon and advantage, may I learn to lean more on him than in myself in Jesus’ name. amen.
