30 So Jakob koll di place Penuel, kon sey, “I don si God face-to-face and I still dey alive.” 31 E nor fit waka well as e dey pass Penuel land, bikos of en lap wey dey pain am, so sun kon dey beat am. 32 Dat na why till today, Israel pipol nor dey chop di meat wey dey lap, bikos di man tosh Jakob lap.

 

Why Jacob dey alone? E send everibody away, remain by imself. Sometimes, na God dey arrange tori so that we go free from our own way, our sharp brain, and all the people wey dey help us, make we dey alone with am so we no go fit do anything by our power, sense or sabi—but depend on am complete.

Peniel or Penuel mean “the face of God”. 

Jacob give name to dat place wey e fight with God—e talk say “I don see God face to face.” From Jacob gbege we see say no be all fight dey spiritual, and no be all spiritual gbege go enter real fight—but Jacob really fight with person wey get body, but the matter get serious and forever wahala.

“The face of God”—for modern Hebrew, mean “e turn face meet God”—na here Jacob collect im new name “Israel”. 

All of us suppose dey learn how to turn meet God.

Every spiritual gbege get who go win. We no ever dey alone when we dey fight spiritual fight; Holy Spirit dey our side, Jesus dey beg for us, and God soldiers dey guide us.

Verse 31 join body with 2 Corinthians 12:7, wey talk say Paul sef get im own thorn—same way Jacob get limp after e jam God. If you meet God, e go leave you with one kind “thing”—so you no go follow your power and sense, but dey trust God. Jacob leg weak to remind am of wetin happen, as Paul own thorn make am humble. If you wan collect blessing, you suppose break—make you leave pride, gra gra, and I-too-know so God fit lift you up.

As you reach your own “Penuel”, wey mean say you dey find God with open heart and serious mind, you go see God glory.

Penuel na place wey you go meet God. Na here we dey wrestle and win—na God dey help us.

Na place of change: Jacob turn Israel. Just as Saul turn Paul for road to Damascus. Both of dem change from people wey no fit serve God, to better people for God Kingdom.

Na place of discovery: Jacob no be the same person again, people know am as gbege master, mago mago guy, but now e discover say na Israel e be—the person God fit use keep promise.

Na place wey you dey win: Luke 18:1,7 yarn us say make we no tire to dey pray, make we hold our faith and dey wait, no matter the wahala—one day we go win.

Penuel na place of protection: God for fit clear Jacob because of im badness, but God safe am to use am do im work.

Penuel na place of strong memory: When you meet God, the thing go dey show for body or mind, like as Jacob leg dey limp—so every time you remember, you go dey thank God.

Penuel na place of favour: Hosea 12:4 talk say Jacob win God for fight, no be by im power, na God show am mercy as e dey beg and cry.

Na place of blessing: Jacob meet God, e change im mind, God open new doors, and God plan for Israel start proper-proper. If you dey always look for God face, you go win too!
