YOU CAN COUNT ON CHRIST
2 Timothy 1:12 AMPC
And this is why I am
suffering as I do. Still I am not ashamed, for I know (perceive, have knowledge
of, and am acquainted with) Him Whom I have believed (adhered to and trusted in
and relied on), and I am [positively] persuaded that He is able to guard and
keep that which has been entrusted to me and which I have committed [to Him]
until that day.
Counting on someone means
that you trust or rely on that person to do something or to be there for you.
To count on someone is to believe they will support you, help you, or keep a
promise. I have recently discovered that there are certain people I can truly
count on to support, encourage, and help me in whatever way I need. They showed
up and kept their promises. Yet, these people are still human. Imagine the
satisfaction that comes from counting on God, on Christ, the Holy Spirit, and
the promises of God. It’s indescribable!
Sadly, many people in
society today are unreliable, even those in our closest circles. Unfortunately,
we cannot live life as an island; we need each other. Scripture encourages us
to rely on others, but with caution. While relationships and community are
important, our ultimate trust belongs to God. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 says, “Two
are better than one... If either of them falls down, one can help the other
up.” This shows the value of dependable companionship.
Proverbs 17:17 declares, “A
friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” It’s
true—a real friend is someone you can count on in hard times. Yet, Psalm 146:3
warns us “not to put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.”
This is a great reminder that human help is limited compared to God’s.
Are there people you can
count on and trust to keep their word?
We can count on people and
rely on them to some extent, but our ultimate reliance must be on the Lord.
Christ will never let us
down; He didn’t when it was painful—through the journey of the cross! He didn’t
fail on the cross! He never will. He is trustworthy and dependable.
You can count on Him!
You can count on Christ for
love, provision, faithfulness, and salvation!
Paul counted on God in
hardship. He faced prison, shipwrecks, and persecution, but always trusted
God’s plan. In Philippians 4:13, he declared his reliance on Christ by saying,
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Even when people failed
him, Paul counted on God’s faithfulness.
Christ’s dependability is
seen in Romans 5:8: “But God proves His own love for us in that while we were
still sinners, Christ died for us!” This shows you can count on Christ’s love
and sacrifice, no matter your situation.
How much, how long, and how
far can we truly count on others? Sadly, some people may become less dependable
over time because of circumstances or other external factors. Some may decide
they can no longer support us on our journey and give up.
Christ will never give up on
us! He is too faithful to fail us.
Psalm 130:5 says, “I am
counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his
word.” This expresses the idea of depending on God and putting your hope in Him
alone.
We can count on friends to
be there for us, and on family to support us, but we must always first count on
the Lord to lead us to those we can rely on, as seen in Psalm 54:4. This verse
affirms that God is our ongoing support and sustainer.
You can count on Christ!
PRAYER: Lord, I will always
trust in you and pour out my heart to you, for you are my refuge. I know you
are always there for me and will always be my safe and reliable help. Amen.
