GET OUT OF EGYPT!
Exodus 3:8 AMPC
And I have come down to
deliver them out of the hand and power of the Egyptians and to bring them up
out of that land to a land good and large, a land flowing with milk and honey
[a land of plenty]-to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the
Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
“Get out of Egypt” has
become a thing in daily speech, usually among Christians but it has crept all
over, but I doubt everyone knows the meaning or understands the
implication.
The story of “get or come
out of Egypt” spans Exodus 3, 12, and 15. The phrase "get out of
Egypt" is used today in Christian teachings as a symbolic or spiritual
message, not just about a physical place. Egypt was the place where the
Israelites were slaves for many years. Until the Lord used Moses to lead them
out of Egypt and into freedom.
Coming out of Egypt means
leaving behind bondage, suffering, or a life of sin. It often symbolizes God
giving someone freedom, a breakthrough, or a new start.
Applying the idea of
"getting out of Egypt" in our lives means choosing to leave behind
anything that keeps one stuck, unhappy, or far from God’s plan for them.
What is Egypt for you? We
must first identify our “Egypt” by realizing and acknowledging what is holding
us back spiritually, emotionally, or mentally.
Is it fear, anger,
unforgiveness, gossip, addiction, or a toxic relationship?
Is there a habit or mindset
that keeps us from growing?
Our Egypt could be anything
that feels like bondage or keeps us from living in freedom and peace.
In Exodus 12:31-33, Pharaoh
called Moses and Aaron and told them, “Get up and leave my people—you and the
Israelites. Go, worship the Lord as you have requested.” Pharaoh even asked
them to pray for him as they left. The Egyptians hurried the Israelites out of
Egypt, saying, “If you don’t leave, we will all die.”
From this, we can conclude
that Egypt is a double-edged sword. A sword that frees one but destroys the
other.
The Israelites came out of
Egypt, but Egyptians died!
When we get out of bondage
or any kind of situation we face, that situation ends or dies or the demon
troubling the person dies. It took Israel a long time to get out of Egypt, with
the ping-pong between Moses and Pharaoh, with Pharaoh resisting letting them go
and Moses determined to get them out. Life is naturally and generally a
struggle, and often painful, but we must struggle and fight out of every
situation that does not glorify God and benefit us.
Fight and struggle out of
every situation that is your Egypt, even small steps matter and would get you
out of Egypt quicker than remaining there. God honors our decision to move
forward and helps us to do so gradually, maybe not so easily but certainly triumphantly
as Romans 8:37.
Act by the Spirit of God
because freedom often requires steps of faith.
Getting out of Egypt means
letting go of unhealthy habits or relationships. Forgive those who hurt you.
Speak truth instead of gossip. And always endeavor to replace fear with
faith.
We may sometimes be tempted
or even do go back to Egypt for whatever reason, even the Israelites sometimes
wanted to go back to Egypt when things got hard as seen in Numbers 11:5. But
God had something better ahead, never behind. Bearing that in mind, we must
stay focused on our growth and not return to old habits.
Learn to surround yourself
with people who encourage you to keep going and not go back. People who will
push you to walk in your new life. Live purposefully, using your gifts to serve
others. Just as God didn’t just bring the Israelites out alone—He brought them
into the Promised Land, He will do the same for you.
