GODLY TRIGGERS!
Jeremiah 29:11-12 AMPC
For I know the thoughts and
plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and
peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. [12] Then you
will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed
you.
What are triggers? Triggers
are stimuli—such as people, places, objects, situations, sounds, smells, or
even thoughts—that cause an intense emotional, physical, or psychological
response, often by evoking a memory or feeling from a past traumatic or distressing
experience. Triggers are unique to each individual; what provokes one person
might not affect another.
If we are to live as God
wants us to, we must be serious about God’s word because He is serious about
His word.
Jeremiah’s letter of
encouragement from God to the exiled Israelites in their darkest hour assures
God’s people everywhere that His plans for us are good, to prosper us and give
us a hopeful future. Even when we don’t see immediate results, we must remain
assured of God’s ultimate blessings and benefits because God’s word triggers
those blessings and benefits.
Godly triggers are reminders
that direct our behavior towards spiritual habits such as prayer, reading
Scripture, or practicing gratitude. For example, keeping a Bible near your bed
might “trigger” a desire to read or pray, making it easier to build holy
habits.
5 GODLY TRIGGERS
1. YOUR SEED IS A TRIGGER!
Abraham’s trigger started in Genesis 14 with
his seed in verses 20–23. No seed is too small for God—your time, money,
skills, talents, and whatever you have are seeds. Make them valuable seeds,
humbly presented to God. Sow godly seeds!
2.YOUR OBEDIENCE IS A
TRIGGER!
Isaac’s trigger began in Genesis 26:2 with
his obedience of “do not go down to Egypt.” If we are serious about God’s word,
then we will be obedient in even the smallest details, no matter how
inconvenient. Be obedient!
3. VISION AND DETERMINATION
ARE TRIGGERS!
Caleb and Joshua triggered their blessings
and benefits in Numbers 13:30 because they dared to see what others didn’t—they
saw with eyes of faith. Deception is the enemy’s number one weapon; that’s why
we need to be serious about God’s word. Have a vision and be determined!
4. YOUR KINDNESS IS A
TRIGGER!
The Shunammite woman’s trigger started in 2
Kings 4:8 by her kind act towards God’s servant the prophet. Many Christians
keep what God has given them to bless others, instead of using it to glorify
God by kindly sharing with others, as Proverbs 22:9 encourages. The Bible
teaches us to be kind and generous from early childhood. When we’re kind to
others, it benefits us even more, because kindness is a seed that keeps
bringing a harvest. Proverbs 11:17: “A man who is kind benefits himself, but a
cruel man hurts himself.” So be kind!
5. YOUR SERVICE OR LABOUR IS
A TRIGGER!
The Bible has much to say about obedience.
Obedience is an essential part of the Christian faith. Jesus Himself was
“obedient unto death, even death on a cross” as seen in Philippians 2:8.
Serving God and others is not about doing great things but doing small things
with great love. Service is a way to express our gratitude to God and lead
others to praise Him. Our service, in whatever capacity, must always be for
kingdom purposes and not just for man, as Colossians 3:17 tells us. Never serve
for the reward of man but for God, who never forgets your reward. Hebrews 6:10
(AMPC): “For God is not unrighteous to forget or overlook your labor and the
love which you have shown for His name’s sake in ministering to the needs of
the saints (His own consecrated people), as you still do.” Service builds up
the “body of Christ.” We can serve God by being kind to our neighbors,
volunteering, and giving to the needy. Our gifts are to serve one another, not
for personal gain or exploitation. So serve!
