THE TREE OF LIFE!

Genesis 2:9 TLB

The Lord God planted all sorts of beautiful trees there in the garden, trees producing the choicest of fruit. At the center of the garden he placed the Tree of Life, and also the Tree of Conscience, giving knowledge of Good and Bad.

The Tree of Life in the Bible represents God’s power to give eternal life and a deep, unbroken relationship with Him.

In Genesis, it was placed in the centre of the Garden of Eden. Whoever ate from it would live forever. But after Adam and Eve sinned, God drove them out of the garden so they could no longer eat from it and have eternal life in their sinful condition as stated in Genesis 3:22–24.

In the Book of Revelation, the Tree of Life appears again—in the New Heaven and New Earth—standing beside the river that flows from God’s throne. It bears fruit for food, and its leaves bring healing to the nations, showing the restoration of eternal life and healing for all who belong to God according to Revelation 22:2.

The Tree of Life teaches us that true life and eternal blessing come only from God. It symbolizes that only those who live in God’s presence and obey Him can receive everlasting life.

Many Bible scholars see it more as a spiritual symbol than just a physical tree—representing the eternal life we now receive through Jesus Christ. The Tree of Life is a powerful, symbolic concept in Scripture, representing God’s provision, eternal life, wisdom, and divine connection.

In the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2–3, the Tree of Life was placed alongside the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, representing eternal life and unbroken fellowship with God. But after the fall, God blocked access to it to prevent mankind from living forever in a sinful state. “The LORD God said, ‘The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat and live forever.’ So the LORD God banished him… and placed cherubim and a flaming sword to guard the way to the tree of life” in Genesis 3:22–24.

The Book of Proverbs also uses the Tree of Life as a metaphor for wisdom, righteousness, and fulfilled desires: in Proverbs 3:18 – “She [wisdom] is a tree of life to those who take hold of her.” And Proverbs 11:30 – “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life.” This shows that living wisely and righteously brings life, healing, and blessing.

In Revelation 2:7, Jesus promises: “To the one who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

Revelation 22:2 describes it as bearing fruit every month, with leaves that heal nations. This is a picture of perfect restoration, where God’s people enjoy His presence forever. The Tree of Life points to Jesus Christ—the source of eternal life—and reflects the work of the Holy Spirit in believers, bringing fruit, healing, and spiritual nourishment.

Access to the Tree of Life is restored through salvation in Christ. Eating from it represents being fully restored to God’s presence and enjoying His blessings forever—a promise for those who remain faithful.
