CHILD-FRIENDLY PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH!
Matthew 23:1-5 GNT
Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples. [2] "The teachers of the Law and the Pharisees are the authorized interpreters of Moses' Law. [3] So you must obey and follow everything they tell you to do; do not, however, imitate their actions, because they don't practice what they preach. [4] They tie onto people's backs loads that are heavy and hard to carry, yet they aren't willing even to lift a finger to help them carry those loads. [5] They do everything so that people will see them. Look at the straps with scripture verses on them which they wear on their foreheads and arms, and notice how large they are! Notice also how long are the tassels on their cloaks!
Memory Verse “Do to others
what you would have them do to you.” Matthew 7:12
Have you ever told someone
to do something, but you didn’t do it yourself? Maybe you told your friend to
be kind, but then you weren’t kind. That’s not practising what you preach!
Practising what you preach
means your actions should match your words. If you say something is right, you
should do it too!
What Can We Learn?
- Jesus wants us to do what
we say. If we teach others to be honest, we should be honest too.
- The Pharisees in the Bible
told people to obey God, but they didn’t always obey themselves. Jesus said we
should not be like that!
- People trust us more when
we live out what we teach.
This is called the Golden
Rule—treat others the way you want to be treated!
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. Can you think of a time
you told someone to do something, but you didn’t do it yourself?
2. Why is it important to
match your actions with your words?
3. How can you show
kindness, honesty, or love—not just talk about it?
4. What is one thing you can
do today to practise what you preach?
PRAYER: Dear God, help me to
do what I say and not just talk about it. Let my actions show Your love and
truth. Help me to be honest and kind, just like Jesus. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Shalom
