CHILD FRIENDLY TOTAL OBEDIENCE!
Memory Verse Jeremiah 35:14b “But I have spoken to you again and again, yet you have not obeyed me.”
Total obedience means
listening and doing exactly what you're told—without arguing, waiting, or
changing the instructions. Do you always obey God?
God was very happy with a
special family called the Rechabites because they obeyed their father’s
instructions for many, many years. They are a great example for us to follow!
Who Were the Rechabites?
The Rechabites were a
traveling tribe (they didn’t live in houses). They were part of a group called
the Kenites (see 1 Chronicles 2:55). Their leader, Jonadab, told them:
- Don’t drink wine
- Live in tents
- Don’t plant farms or build
houses
God told the prophet Jeremiah
to invite the Rechabites to the temple and offer them wine. But they said “No!”
because they were obeying Jonadab’s command—even though it had been over 200
years since he gave it!
God was very pleased with
them. He used their obedience to show how His own people (Judah) were not
listening to Him. The Rechabites obeyed a human father, but God’s people
weren’t obeying their Heavenly Father.
What Can We Learn?
- God loves obedience and rewards
it.
- God is sad when we disobey
Him.
- We should hold on to God’s
Word and obey it always—not just for a little while.
- The Rechabites stayed
faithful for generations. Can we do the same with God’s instructions?
They stayed strong and
didn’t follow the crowd. That’s what God wants from us too!
The Rechabites remembered
they were strangers and travellers in this world. We should also stay away from
things that pull us away from God.
We must obey our Heavenly
Father and live by His Word. The Rechabites didn’t let the world change them.
Can we be like them today?
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
- What does obeying God look
like in your everyday life?
- How can you be faithful in
small things God asks you to do?
- What makes it hard to obey
God today?
- How does the Rechabites’
story help you want to obey God more?
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me
to obey You completely and faithfully every day. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
Shalom
