18Den I tell Rekab pipol: “Israel God wey dey mighty sey, ‘Una don obey evritin wey una grand-grand papa Jehonadab tell una; dey follow evritin wey e tish una and una don do evritin wey e kommand una.’ ” 19So mi, wey bi Israel God promise sey, “Jehonadab wey bi Rekab pikin, go always get one of en sons wey go serve mi.”

 

Total obedience mean say you obey command well well without any yawa, hesitation or half-half. You dey obey God full ground? You think say God go fit praise you because you dey obey Him, follow Him, and do wetin e say for spirit? God praise Rechabites dem for this kind obedience and e use dem as example make we follow. Dem be nomadic tribe wey dey 1 Chronicles 2:55; part of Kenites for Hemath.

Jonadab na Rechab son, Kenite wey come from Hobab and na im be head of Rechabites for Jehu time. God use Rechabites strong obedience teach Israel real lesson. God tell Jeremiah make e call Rechabites come meet am for verse 2, e offer dem wine but dem say no, because of their forefather command for verse 6. Dem hold their family tradition tight from old times.

God use their obedience show contrast with Judah people wey no dey obey God. Rechabites obey human ancestor, Judah people no obey God command. Jeremiah use am condemn Judah people disobedience to God. God dey love obedience, and hate disobedience, He dey punish am too.

We dey follow God law and instruction well? God fit use you as example for obedience? You go hold God command for how long? Your obedience na for small time or forever?

Rechabites obey this rules for plenty years—from Jehu time for 2 Kings 10:15 to Jeremiah time, over 200 years.

The Rechabites story teach us serious lesson on covenant obedience and disobedience. If Rechabites fit obey human ancestor command, stand for promise to no drink wine, hold themselves answerable, why we no fit do better with God's covenant? Dem fit change rule any time, but no, dem holdam strong for generations.

God send Jeremiah remind Jews to learn from Rechabites faithful obedience. God show contrast between Rechabite obedience and Judah disobedience.

God tell Judah people again, again make dem turn from bad ways but dem no hear. Same now, God dey talk to us but many no dey obey. God dey say if Rechabites dey hold old command, we too gats hold new covenant tight and obey God word.

Jeremiah 35:9-10 talk say we be strangers and pilgrims for this world. That mean make we avoid flesh lust and materialism. Rechabites take care everywhere and obey strict law for clean living, even when times hard. Now, we get better protection from Jesus name, stronger than wine abstinence.

We get covenant work to obey papa God instruction and live well as God word talk. We get plenty lesson to learn from the Rechabites. Dem no allow culture swallow dem. But the question be, we fit be like Rechabites for this world today?
