TAKE YOUR MEDICINE!
Proverbs 4:21-22 AMPC
Let them not depart from
your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. [22] For they are life to
those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.
Medicine! There are millions
of medicines for all kinds of treatment, but nothing beats God’s medicine. If
you’re currently on medication that you need to take in doses at certain times,
you might wonder—is seeing doctors or using medicine wrong? No! God created
everything, including health practitioners and the ingredients used in drugs.
However, in our world today, medicine has become very expensive and is often
only affordable to those with deep pockets.
In these present times,
believers must live by faith and not by sight, as 2 Corinthians 5:7 says. We
should not depend solely on man-made medicine to get well but remember that God
is always working behind the scenes.
What’s your first thought
when you’re unwell? Go to the doctor, right? Why not go to God first? There is
nothing wrong with seeing a doctor—I encourage it as necessary to know your
health status, and also to know how and what to pray for. Doctors and the
medicine they provide are blessings from God. Luke, the disciple, was also a
physician.
But we must not put doctors
and medicine in the place of God or expect miracles from them without involving
God.
Jeremiah 8:22 asks, “Is
there no medicine in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no
healing for the wounds of my people?” Their problem was that they consulted the
wrong spiritual sources, choosing false prophets over God’s Word.
God’s Word, according to our
text, is the right dose of daily medicine we need for good health and divine
healing.
We live in a fallen world,
and many things can make us sick, but remember Isaiah 53:5: by “his stripes” we
are healed! Not that we will be healed, but we are already healed—the provision
for healing was made before we ever needed it, if we take the right dose of the
Word in faith daily.
It does exactly what it
promises!
As believers, this is the
time to manifest the truth of God’s Word. We need doctors, but that should
never diminish the power of God’s Word and the blood of Jesus.
God gave us leaves for
medicine to heal the nations according to Revelation 22:2, and in 2 Kings 20:7,
He used ointment from figs.
He provided natural
remedies, herbs, plants, and more to help us when we need them. Yet many would
rather spend large sums to feel better.
From Jesus’ ministry, we see
healing is good! It’s the right of everyone, especially believers. Dr. Luke the
physician in Colossians 4:14 may not have dispensed prescriptions like today’s
doctors, but he treated people’s ailments using the medicines and treatments of
his day, combined with the Word of God.
Taking care of our health is
important. Taking prescribed medicine is also good, but never at the expense of
the Word and Spirit of God, which can heal us without any side effects.
Take your medicine! Taking
the right dosage of God’s Word daily will save us a lot of money. God heals—the
doctor takes the fee. God’s hands always heal, as Job 5:18 says.

PRAYER: Lord, my healer,
help me to always depend on you for healing, as you promised healing is my
bread and portion. Help me to meditate on the right dose of your Word daily, in
Jesus’ name. Amen.
