WORDS CREATE YOUR REALITY!
Hebrews 11:3 AMPC
By faith we understand that
the worlds [during the successive ages] were framed (fashioned, put in order,
and equipped for their intended purpose) by the word of God, so that what we
see was not made out of things which are visible.
The scripture teaches that
words have creative power, especially God’s words. When God spoke, creation
began—His words brought everything into existence in Genesis 1. This means
God’s spoken word has the power to create reality from nothing visible. God doesn’t
joke with His word; His word is powerfully prophetic and always has results or
ramifications as declared in Isaiah 55:11.
We are so used to making
jokes with words that we can’t separate our words into the category of real,
fake, and serious word. I taught my children very early to never utter words in
jest. Why? There is nothing like spiritual comedy. We don’t say words in jest
and expect the angels or the demons to laugh. There are no jokes in the
spiritual.
Our words carry power.
Proverbs 18:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue."
This means what we speak can influence our reality—our thoughts, attitudes, and
declarations can build or destroy. In the spiritual realm, there are no jokes
or empty words; every word carries significance and potential impact.
God's word is living and
active according to Hebrews 4:12, sharper than any sword, able to divide soul
and spirit. This shows the seriousness and power of words in shaping spiritual
and physical realities.
So, "Word creates your
reality" aligns with biblical teaching that what is spoken has power.
God’s words created all things, and our words can influence our lives and
surroundings. Therefore, speaking with faith, truth, and aligning with God’s word
is critical, because spiritually, there are no empty or trivial words. This
underscores why the Bible warns against careless speech and encourages
believers to speak life, faith, and truth in their daily lives.
Imagine if the Lord says
something to you, something that you’ve been so desperate to hear, only for the
Lord to turn around and declare “sorry, I was joking.”
Genesis 1 and Hebrews 11:3
both highlight the power of "word" in creating reality, but they do
so from complementary perspectives.
In Genesis 1, creation
begins with God's spoken word. God commands, "Let there be light,"
and light appears. This account emphasizes that God’s word is the active
creative force that brings the universe and all life into existence from
nothing. It shows the divine authority and power inherent in God’s spoken word
to shape physical reality.
In our text, the focus is on
faith in the unseen reality created by God's word: "By faith we understand
that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not
made out of things that are visible." This verse stresses that the visible
world was made from the invisible by God’s word, and this truth forms a basis
for faith. It highlights the spiritual understanding and trust of believers
that God's word has powerful creative authority beyond the natural realm.
Together, Genesis 1 presents
the actual event of creation by God's word, while Hebrews 11:3 underscores the
spiritual belief in that creative act as fundamental to faith. Both affirm that
the "word" is dynamic and powerful, not just in creating the physical
universe but also as foundational in the believer's perspective of reality.
Thus, Genesis shows God
speaking things into existence, and Hebrews points to the faith that trusts in
that spoken word as the source of all reality, seen and unseen. The common
thread is that God's word is the ultimate creative force behind everything.
Be careful what you say!
When you speak, you must say what needs to be said, nothing more or less.
When you speak, the angels
are listening for your instruction and to obey and they certainly won’t
understand the “jokes” you utter and may therefore be unable to carry out your
instructions. The same goes for the demons. We have a way of even making positive
words sound negative. Sadly, the enemy runs with every negative word we utter.
Always make your words
intentional, aligned with Scripture, and filled with faith and love, you
actively participate with God’s creative power for your spiritual growth and
positive influence on those around you.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
- How mindful am I of the
fact that my words have the power of life and death? What fruit do my words
usually produce?
- Are there times I have
spoken words that caused harm or negativity? How can I change that?
- How do my words reveal the
condition of my heart? What changes can I invite God to make in my heart to
transform my speech?
- How do my words reflect
the creative power of God's Word as seen in creation?
PRAYER: Heavenly Father,
thank You for the power of Your Word that created all things and continues to
sustain us. Help me to guard my tongue and speak life, blessings, and faith in
every situation. May Your Word dwell richly in my heart and flow from my mouth
to bring healing, hope, and encouragement to those around me in Jesus’ name,
amen.
