PIDGIN A STRANGE STORY!

Acts 20: 7-12

“For di first day for di week, wen wi whole meetin to break bread togeda, Paul start to tok with di pipol and bikos e won go di next day, e kon prish till mid-nite. 8(For di room for upstair where wi for dey meet, lamp many for der), 9one boy wey dem dey koll Eutikus, sidan for di window kon dey sleep as Paul dey prish. Di sleep karry am go, so e fall from di three story and wen dem rush go karry am, dem si sey e don die. 10But Paul go down, liedan on-top di boy kon put en hand round am sey, “Make una nor worry, bikos e still dey alive!” 11Den Paul go upstair and afta e don break bread with dem, e follow dem tok till day break. Den e kon komot from der. 12Dem take di boy go house kon dey happy sey e dey alive”.

 

 

Bible get plenti strange and interesting tori dem. Tori wey fit make person laff, cry, shake head, or even shame small. Some go touch your heart, change you, or comot your mind from normal. 

For our society now, people dey go church for just two hours, yet dem still dey complain say it too long. If pastor talk pass the time wey dem set, everybody go wan stone am. 

But Paul, for him last visit to Troas, call everybody make dem gather for Lord’s Supper. As him dey give long sermon, one small pikin, Eutychus, wey siddon for window, start to sleep, fall from third floor, and kpai. Person go think say wahala don bust. Dem go blame person. People go dey run up and down, wonder wetin happen. And dem go stop the preaching. 

But no—dem no stop am. Paul just waka go down, bend reach where Eutychus dey, bring am back to life, climb go up back, tell everybody, “No worry, Eutychus don wake.” 

And people still dey. Dem ready to hear wetin Paul get to talk for God. Paul preach reach morning. 

E shock you? Na strange tori be dat. 

Eutychus wake, everybody happy. Nobody complain. Nobody shout. Nobody comot! Everybody remain. Why? Because Paul dey talk about God, Jesus, Bible, blood and body of Christ. 

No be dat one be Christian life? To dey discuss Word, dey talk about how God dey do supernatural things. Wetin Paul dey yan no simple. E no dey boring and dey change life. E dey burst mind. E dey carry spiritual power wey no get mate. Wetin make the people fit siddon for hours, dey listen, no complain? Na because dem dey hear word wey go touch heart, change life, arrange destiny, heal person, and still fit bring dead person back. 

Where all this power dey now for church? Where the strong mind? Where the fire? If e happen today inside church, person go call ambulance, another go call police. People go shout, blame, point finger. Some go dey laugh, say, “Na your God be this?” Maybe one or two people wey get faith go still dey pray quietly. 

But wetin you dey reason for this strange tori, as dem gather for Lord’s Supper. E mean say, where Spirit of God dey, liberty go dey. Freedom wey dey follow Holy Spirit. Freedom wey suppose dey among Christians. The freedom wey come from knowing the Word and God. But, na that liberty dey miss for plenti churches today. 

God power dey real. Spirit of God dey real. Power wey fit raise dead pass all our imagination. Bible full with strange tori dem. Wetin be your own strange tori? 

You dey church before wey dem no wan close? I don dey. You see any meeting wey person just fall die? I never see. But I don dey place wey person collapse, dey sick well well. Wetin you experience wey make your trust for God strong? Wey make you dey reason well well for life-giving Word? Strange tori. Everybody suppose get their own. If you never get, e mean say, you never jam God well. 

For this season, anywhere you dey, ask God make e help you be like Eutychus—even if sleep dey your body—still ready to hear Word. And remember, Bible talk say, only lamp dey shine small small for that room. E mean say, dem no even dey see well. Today, plenti countries and Christians dey like dat—dem no dey see well, but dem still dey wait to hear the Word, and dey hope for God touch. 

You be Eutychus, Paul, or one of the brethren wey gather for the room? Any position wey you dey, anything wey you do, make you remember say God still be God. E never change.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS 

-    When last you desire to hear God Word reach say you fit stay pass time just to hear more?

-    How you dey behave when trouble or wahala burst inside worship?

-    Wetin be the “strange tori” wey God take build your faith strong?

-    Wetin you fit do now to renew hunger, zeal, and fire for God Word for this season?

PRAYER: Papa God, thank You for Your Word wey dey give life, heal, restore, and fit raise dead. Help us to be like Paul, make we get boldness to share Your Word, and like Eutychus, make we get eagerness to hear Your voice—even when body weak—in Jesus name, Amen.
