22Joshua koll Gibeon pipol kon tell dem, “Wetin make una deceive us wen una sey, ‘Where wi der stay, far from una,’ wen una really dey stay near us? 23Naw, una go bi awa savants forever and una go dey kut wood and karry wota go awa God house.”

24Dem kon tell Joshua, “Wi do like dis, bikos wi hear sey na really true sey di Oga una God don kommand Moses make e give una di whole land kon kill all di pipol wey dey stay der as una rish der. Wi do like dis, bikos wi dey fear una and wi nor won die. 25So naw, wi dey under una. Make una do us wetin una tink sey dey good to do.”

26Joshua kon do as dem tok; E nor let Israel pipol kill dem 27and from dat day go, e kon make dem dey kut wood and karry wota for di kommunity and for God altar. Till today, dem still dey do dis work for where God choose sey, make dem dey woship am.

 

You be person wey dey suspect people well or na easy trust dey your corner, or you dey quick doubt wetin you see? If person no dey careful, e fit easy to carry fall—especially if we forget ask God for direction. 

Joshua 9 yarn the story of Gibeonites wey come with waka-waka story, form say dem travel far. Dem fear God people and wan find safety by using lie. 

Dem land very early, dust and shadow full their body. Their slippers dey rough, dem carry old jar wey show say dem don waka. Everything about dem talk say dem suffer, but na wayo! 

Dem kneel before Joshua say, “We come from far place, we wan make peace because we don hear wetin your God dey do.” 

Joshua check them. Council hear their gist but dem no ask God at all. Dem quick gree, use human sense. Joshua and the leaders just look face, hear talk, gree with dem but no consult God. 

After three days, true story show—these people na just neighbours, dem no waka come from anywhere. Wahala burst for Israel side. Warriors vex, but the vow don already stand. Joshua say, “We no go kill una, but una go dey serve wood and water.” The deceivers come become people wey day carry wood and fetch waterr—living reminder say person no suppose rush promise, and say mercy fit even cover lie. But the covenant stand because na before God dem talk am. Wetin start as lie turn to opportunity make dem show mercy. Israel keep the promise even though, and na so dem turn problem to service and grace. 

This teach us two big lessons: always seek God before any decision. Even wise person fit miss wetin only prayer go show. God grace fit go cover our mistake. Any promise you rush make, if you keep am with correct mind, e fit later become testimony of God mercy. 

So as things dey pressure you today, or people dey shout for answer, pause—hear God small small. Wetin we do with Him guidance dey last, but wetin we do by ourself na wahala. Even if we blunder, na His mercy go fit turn mistake to testimony of hope. 

No be all voice wey sound far truly come from far, and no be every promise wey wait for sense. 

How your sense dey sharp to judge matter? Make we allow God dey lead and direct all our decisions so that we no go enter wahala wey long reach other generations. 

Verse 14-15 yarn am: “So the men collect some of their food, but no ask God anything. And Joshua make peace, give them agreement…” You dey ask God? 

If e too good to believe, e fit be lie—dem story sound good but na fake. 

The main wahala no be just the lie—na say dem no ask God at all. For their to show love, sense just disappear. But Joshua still respect the agreement. E no fight back. E just change the arrangement. Gibeonites go dey serve, dem no go dey lead again. 

Our life na like that. For ministry, leadership, everyday decision, sometimes rush and feelings dey make us miss the real thing. Na look dey deceive person. But God grace dey cover us. Like Joshua, we suppose answer with humility and correct mind. No need to break any promise to do right—just put boundary and let God grace turn wahala to better service. 

Abeg, make we dey pray before any big decision—especially the one wey fit change life. If dem deceive you, choose grace instead of revenge. It no easy, but try honour your word if you fit, and still put sense boundary. E go turn your mistake to story of God grace.

- When last you do something without asking God? Wetin be the result? 

- How many times you dey pause, pray before you decide matter? 

- You don ever rush promise before? How you manage am after? 

- How your mistake fit turn to God's testimony for your life?

PRAYER: Baba God, help me to pause, look for Your hand before I act. Teach me make I fit know truth pass wetin eye dey see. If I mistake, give me humble mind make I fit keep my word and give me wisdom make I fit reset with grace. Make every promise I make show Your mercy and justice. Amen.
