Na Israel pipol build Pitom and Rameses as di place wey Fero go dey keep tins put. 12But even as Egypt pipol dey opress Israel pipol, dem still dey plenty more-more for di land and Egypt pipol kon dey fear dem well-well, 13so dem kon dey ponish Israel pipol anyhow. 14Egypt pipol make life taya Israel pipol with di kind hard work wey dem dey do with mortar, stones and all di work for di field.

15Di king wey dey rule Egypt kon tell Shifrah and Puah wey bi di Hibru nurse sey; 16“Anytime wen una dey help di Hibru wimen wey won born, if una si sey di pikin na boy, make una kill-am, but if na girl, make una nor kill-am.” 17But di nurse dem dey fear God and dem nor gri do wetin di king tell dem, so dem nor kill di boys.

18Den di king koll di nurse kon ask, “Why una do dis kind tin? Why una nor kill di boys?”

19Di nurse ansa Fero, “Hibru wimen nor bi like Egypt wimen; dem strong well-well and before wi go even rish der, dem don born!”

20So God favor di nurse dem and Israel pipol kon dey plenty and strong. 21Bikos di nurse dem dey fear God, Oga God kon give dem dia own family.

22So Fero kommand en pipol, “Make una go kill any boy wey dem just born kon trow dem inside River Nile, but make una leave all di girls.”

 

You dey fear God? 

The God-fearing midwives for Exodus 1:8-22 na Shiphrah and Puah, wey show strong courage when wahala full ground for Israelites for Egypt. When Pharaoh talk make dem kill all the new Hebrew baby boys, dem no gree; dem fear God pass Pharaoh. To fear God mean say you value wetin God talk pass wetin man talk. Dem choose to save life, even when e fit bring problem for dem body. 

We fit hide wetin we dey do from people, but nothing dey hide from God. Yet, e be like say we no fear God reach to stop some things wey dey offend Holy Spirit, hurt people, or break God’s law. 

If we no get God teaching, we go miss road (Psalm 86:11). If we no get the fear and wisdom wey dey come from God, we go dey waka for wrong road. 

Some people dey wey call demself Christian, but if dem be midwife that time, dem fit do wetin Pharaoh talk—kill innocent children. People dey wey dey thief; from small change to big money—na all still be stealing. 

If dem dey insult, bully, or treat your colleague bad for work, how you dey respond? You dey help, you dey close eye, or you dey join? 

Some things no be outright bad, but for God side dem no pure. You know say e no good, but you fit still do am because “everybody dey do am,” “e no dey hurt anybody,” or “I no wan lose my job.” 

Bible talk say God dey close to people wey fear am (Psalm 25:14). He go only sanctify wetin true for His word (John 17:17). E mean say God don separate us from worldly, fleshly, or common things, to make us dey devoted to am well-well. 

For Luke 12:5, the fear of God for people wey no believe na fear of judgment and everlasting death—separation from God. But for believer, the fear of God na respect and awe. 

The fear wey believer suppose get na reverence for God. Hebrews 12:28-29 explain am; na this fear dey push us make we surrender to our Creator. 

Na this fear dey make us different from others, so we no go just follow crowd dey do anything, whether good or bad. Na the same fear go make us live life like Proverbs 19:23 talk. 

True-true, God bless the midwives (Exodus 1:20). Some people fit say the midwives lie, but na fear and wisdom wey God give dem make dem do wetin dey right. When dem need to choose between fearing God or obeying Pharaoh, dem choose God. 

How about you? When you need to choose between pleasing people and obeying God, how you go do? 

Many things dey we dey fear—crime, accident, storm, virus, weapon, wicked people, terrorists, earthquake, demons, even Satan. But many people no fear God! 

If all the choices wey show na bad, still follow the one wey go give God glory, use wisdom. 

To fear God mean say you respect am, obey am, accept His discipline, and worship am with awe. 

If you truly fear God, you go love and obey am. You no go lack wetin you need, either spirit or physical (Psalm 35:9). 

Bible talk say “In all your ways acknowledge Him” (Proverbs 3:6). For everything, begin and end your work with fear of God. Fear God pass as the midwives fear Pharaoh, because dem sabi say God power big pass anybody own. 

REFLECTION QUESTIONS 

- How you don feel pressure before to do wetin no follow your belief, and how you take handle am? Wetin motivate you that time? 

- How you dey show “fear of God” for your daily life, especially when e mean say you go need courage or go against authority? 

- You fit remember any time wey you see or take stand for justice or life, no matter the cost? 

- Wetin you fit do to support and protect people wey dey vulnerable around you, even when e hard?
